Re: Incident with Pitmix and 2yr old son - HELP!
Kenisya, please be aware that pack theory is scientifically proven to be incorrect and out of date, and you are recommending methods not endorsed by this forum. I believe this thread has been addressed in the dog training section.

Re: Vet / Client Relationships
I also have a wonderful vet. She's very easy to talk to, listens to what I have to say and takes it into account, and she's wonderful with my boys, even nervous Remy. She's a bit supporter of a prey-model raw diet and does offer frozen pre-made raw in her practice. I've never heard of her recommendi...

Re: Dog Laugh
Got Sam to play bow! Remy just looks interested but doesn't do anything. He's not really a playful dog as it is.

Re: Training my Bassett Hound
What brand of food is she currently eating? I'd agree with she's likely nervous to go around you and while she does do so, she's not comfortable doing it. She's not being naughty, she's being a dog.

Re: Bringing in a new dog with an old sometimes aggressive dog
I would also drop the notion of "alpha" from your mind. There is no alpha. There is no pack. You have two unrelated dogs, one of whom is likely fear-reactive. I would strongly suggest you rethink bringing this hound into your home, not only for his safety, but for the happiness of your lab...

There's a BIG yawn and a bunch of lip licking after that leash pop too. Definitely not a happy dog.

Re: Clicker training with unusual animals
Who says you need hands to open things? I'll admit, I thought it was going to be a reticulated python rather than a burmese. Retics are fast and SMART; burms are rather the slow, dopey, easily overweight giants of the python world.

Re: Mouthing, biting and nipping
I agree he needs daily walking. One of my boys doesn't mind children, but my older boy is terrified of them. I don't much like children either, so it's easy to say "don't pet him please, he is not friendly." That same boy gets very mouthy when he is not exercised daily - a romp in the yard...

Re: Marking = confidence or anxiety?
Sampson rarely marks on walks. He mostly just does his "business" (rarely c*cks his leg either) and prefers to spend the walk sniffing. REMY on the other hand... Remy is obsessive about marking - every five steps, every twig, every rock, and as high as he can go. He only marked in the hous...

That was the only thing I could find that might fit, but they're not horribly large with the standard being 40-55lb. Good looking dogs though.

I've seen some videos of monitor lizards, tegus, and frill-neck lizards being clicker trained as well. I'll see if I can dig those up.

Re: Don Sullivan's command collar
What makes me shake my head all the time is "well, I have two BIG dogs and I can't walk them without it" or "I have a difficult breed and have to control them." I have two big dogs and "difficult" breeds at that. Sam the Doberman is pushing 90lbs and Remy the Catahoula ...

Re: quirky things we love.
Rosie my late APBT used to make these awful-sounding growly snarly noises when she was happy. As she did so, she tucked her tail and bum and raced in a circle. We called it the "Pit Bull 500." Sampson has decided he is too cool to play, so when caught rolling about or tossing his toy...
