Re: Puppy Ignoring Me in Class
Youre deifnitely expecting too much Im afraid¬! At 17 weeks its fab that hes doing all of those commands at home! Class is a very exciting/stimulating/scary place for puppies as there are SO many distractions. Dogs dont generalise so just becaise he can manage to do those commands at home, doesnt me...

Re: **HELP** Rescue dog & Seperation Anx. ????
8 or 10 hours is WAY too long for a dog to be in a crate for...any dog let alone a rescue that you havent had for long. Imagine being shut in a small room for that time yourself with nothing to read, no tv, nobody to speak to, no phone to call anyone.....I know if it was me Id go loopy. Im, actually...

Re: Crate Train or Not to Crate Train
Dylan adores his crate! I never actually shut him in it to be honest, alhough I could do....but its more a den like area for him to go to (as well as his comfy bed that he has in livingh room and another comfy bed he has in my bedroom!). Its at the back corner of my living room, covered in blankets ...

Can I ask a stupid question - and pleeeaaase forgive me because I am sure you are using it correctly...but how are you using the clicker? Are you using it as a marker then followed by a reward??

Re: At Wits End Problems with training, walking and the car
OK first off most of these are perfectly normal behaviours....and it just sounds like hes bored and not being mentally stimulated. So...how much exercise does he get a day....and mnore iomportantly how much mental stimulation does he get? You have a Sprocker whioch, as you know, is a highly intellig...

Re: When will he be grown up?
Dylan is similar Judy....if he greets other dogs it very hit and miss as to whether it will be a nice greet or whether he will get growly and chase them off. You can see him sometimes when a dog comes over to him, tense up then react...he doesnt like it. Its the same reaction as when we try to move ...

Re: Food in the uk - wheres all the good stuff??!
Only thing that put me personally off Taste of the Wild and Acana etc is because its not made in the UK. That wont bother a lot of people but it was important to me...especially regulations and ingredients differ from country to country.

Re: Excellent when training but not listening when not training!
Thats a key point actually....as humans we tend to speak too much! With dogs it works better to teach them the behaviour - using food lures initially, and hand signals, then introducing the verbal cue when they are 'fluent' in the behaviour. It works so much better with dogs as they are much more vi...

Re: Excellent when training but not listening when not training!
Yep my dog loves it too! I do it someties with a pot or something (it doesnt have to be a box) and I click for him looking at it. IN a few mins you can see him whacking the box or tub with his paw then looking at me...its hilarious!

Re: Excellent when training but not listening when not training!
A street walk probably wont be enough for him really.....have you got a long line? Its like a long lead (30ft or s0) that you can attach to a harness (always aharnes, not a copllar, to avoid damage if the dog gets to the end) and means the dog can get freedom, but he cant run oiff and a long line is...

Re: Excellent when training but not listening when not training!
Id actually do a few sessions (like you are!) but keep them really short....so more like 3 or 4 mins. 15 mins is a long time for a puppy to focus on so he may well be switching off and getting bored with training/ What exercise does he get on a daily basis? I dont think Iams is great to be honest......

Re: Excellent when training but not listening when not training!
How long are your training sessions when in the house? And can I ask....if he doesnt do a command, do you keep repeating the command until he does it?
How much exercise does he have each day and what is he fed on?
