Re: Inter-dog aggression
I can promise that Nettle is one of the most respected and knowledgable members here. My gut feeling is also that rehoming the younger dog is the kindest route forward, for all the dogs. I'm sorry. Please also bear in mind that even if it were possible to manage the dogs so they are never in the sam...

Re: Scared Cocker Spaniel
Hi there, I'm sure people will be happy to help, but we need a lot more details please to be able to advise. What does your dogs day typically look like? What's his/her daily routine? How long have you had him/her? Can you give us specific examples of what happens when he's afraid? Is he afraid of t...

Re: Vent!
ScarletSci, do you use normal powdered cinnamon? How much/what dilution do you use? OH gets eczema, though it moves around his body and this year it's on his back/back of neck. So not so easy to soak, and I'm not sure I can persuade him to put it in the bath... I do just use a bag of normal powered...

Re: Inter-dog aggression
I'm so sorry you and your family are going through this. I know it must be heartbreaking. I'm not feeling optimistic about the chances of keeping both dogs in the same household I'm afraid, but I have a couple of thoughts and questions; Is Milo regarded as 'top dog' by the others? What would you say...

Re: Off leash
Same as the others, I assess the risks before I consider off lead, especially if we're anywhere near a cliff - every dog I've seen an article about that's gone over a cliff has been either a collie or a Springer! So I won't risk it. But I don't worry about if there's a fence in general countryside, ...

Re: Recall
I'm lucky to have excellent recall with my two, but it was trained since puppyhood elasticity days, and neither are reactive, so there's that! The reactivity is sort of a separate issue you'll need to work on a different way from the recall. I'm not even sure what you're describing actually is react...

Hi Lara, sorry, I only just saw this post. You mentioned a comment I made; "Like I don't understand when Scarletsci said that bullmastiff are one heck of a breed to choose for a first dog. But if the new owner is dedicated and has researched the breed and is willing to get help when needed then...

Master2, you left us hanging here: what did the doctor say about your tummy troubles? Nettle, how are you mending after getting mowed down by that loose dog? Erica, how are you holding up at your house? Well I've got my own pity party going: I've been suffering from an eczema flare for a year, and ...

Re: Help! Mystery skin condition, even vet is stumped. *Diagnosis: Lupus.
There are herbs and other alternative treatments for managing lupus that could help improve quality of life without all the negative side effects. Massage, acupressure, hydrotherapy, etc. A canine rheumatologist, if there is one in the area, could help immensely. Awesome, thank you Fundog! I'll pas...

Re: Defensive aggression from Pixie...
Just an update for those interested; There have been no incidents at all since those three times over the one week period last month. I think it's a good example of how even a good natured, well balanced dog can be affected by a negative encounter, then need some time to de-stress and some positive ...

Aaaww, poor Jasper! And poor Judy! What Nettle says makes a lot of sense to me. It's like since I repeatedly sprained my ankles as a kid, they sprain much more easily now than most, 'cos of the prior injuries. I doubt you have to worry about not healing and potential amuptation - I think you'd soon ...

Oh,and it was a vet new to the area who specialises in dermatalogical issues who finally made the diagnosis, and Dini is now under the care of her usual, wonderful vet who's returned from maternity leave.

The lupus would also explain the kidneys and possibly even cardiac arrest. So sorry about the diagnosis :( Thanks, while she's relieved to know what it is at last, she's distraught about the diagnosis and torn about what next steps to take. Dini is ten and a half now, and a large breed so fairly ad...

Re: Bull mastiff gender?
Actually, I have often said that about dogs too - first mammal, then dog, then type, then breed/mix, then individual. And I'm about as far from CM as you can get :) I don't disagree with the line, or even everything CM says. It just made me question whether she was watching CM shows or reading his ...
