Re: Swollen Face (much better now)

Poor Ted. :(

I always dread my dog trying to eat or kill a bee/wasp. Thankfully it hasn't happened yet!

Re: collies

My partner and I have a 2 1/2 year old border collie. We've had him since July. For a collie, I think he is probably quite relaxed, however... He is my life! I spend most of my awake hours doing things with him. If I don't he gets stressed and has a bunch of slightly undesirable behaviours he will t...

Re: Carprofen/Rymadyl

I've just spoken to the vet who has said to stop the drug and try it again in a few days. I will only try it again if it looks like he needs it. I've been reading lots on the internet about this drug and there seem to be a good few people who says that it's very dangerous. I'm hoping that it's a min...

Carprofen/Rymadyl

So, the vet put Pan onto Carprofen, which he's meant to take for the next few days. It's making him very lethargic and he's been sick several times. I honestly think he would be happier without it. His paw is looking much better, and although it's probably still sore, I think he would suffer less wi...

Re: Laser pointers

What about bubbles? I don't use them with Pan, but a friend of mine uses them with her dog occasionally. It means she can sit still while the dog pops them. I have no idea if bubbles are dangerous to dogs or not though, as I haven't researched it (due to not using them with Pan). If they are safe, p...

How much do you interfere with toys?

I've just bought my dog a new toy. It's a Kong Wobbler (I think that's what it's called). I've shown him how it works and then played with it a bit with him, but then I've stepped back to let him try on his own. He tried for a little while, but is now bored and looking between it and me to ask me to...

Re: Loose Lead walking

Help needed! So, Pan can't be let off the lead due to a paw injury, meaning all of his walks will be on-lead. I plan to start the loose lead training with him, but I'm a bit confused! He still needs walking, otherwise he'll go crazy. If I've done 3 minutes of training, it obviously won't have done t...

Re: My dog doesn't seem to respect me

I have no useful advice, but just wanted to high five you for seeking help. Lots of dog owners have difficulty, but it's the good ones who make the effort to understand and improve. I hope that doesn't sound patronising. :D

Re: Pan has hurt his paw.

Thank you. :) I popped out for a few minutes to the shops to get a few bits. He was so sleepy that he didn't really notice me leaving. I bought him a cuddly toy (which he has been chewing a bit... he's asleep with it under his paw now) which got a waggy tail and a couple of bones for when he is not ...

Pan has hurt his paw.

It's not been a good weekend for Pan. He's been hit by a bike, attacked (causing a cut above his eye) by a huge dog and then has run into a massive log and damaged his paw. We took him to see an emergency vet last night, because he couldn't walk. For several hours he wasn't able to walk much at all,...

Re: Dog park etiquette question

When you talk about dog parks...

Do you mean commons or fields that are popular dog walking places where dogs are usually off-lead, or something more formal than that?

Re: I love it when my dog(s)...

Aww! The replies here make me happy. Some things I love about Pan: I love that if he has a bone he'll choose to come and sit next to me to eat it. He'll also nudge my hand so that I stroke him while he's chewing on it. He then wags his tail furiously. Cuddles and bones together are a good mix for hi...

Re: Dog park etiquette question

This thread is really interesting. I've realised recently that I haven't always dealt with Pan correctly when he has been hassling another dog or vice versa. There are several things I need to work on. One thing I really want him to stop doing is going up to say hello to dogs on leads. If the dog is...

Loose lead training.. In an electric powerchair.

Hey :) I've read the loose lead topic in the articles section, but being in the wheelchair makes some of the techniques really difficult, and sometimes a bit dangerous. I'm not sure what to do, but I really need to stop the pulling. Pan (border collie, 2 and a half years old) did start pulling less,...
