Re: TREAT Training ........

In short, yes. Phasing out food as a lure works just like that but don't fall into the trap of not rewarding your dog when its well behaved. If thats a treat here or there, the chance for a run, chuck a ball /whatever. It sounds like you should start chaining commands before a treat. so instead of &...

Re: intussusception

I would feed smaller meals more often for a couple of weeks. There is a small chance of a reoccural within a few weeks of the operation but as long as your vet didn't remove to much intestine then your dog should lead a perfectly normal life tbh Good quality nutrition will improve your dogs health. ...

Re: Courses and good trainers

The problem with getting some form of qualification to be a trainer is there isn't any to get. You can find a host of other trainers who will sell you their own courses (some good, some bad) but there is no offical, do x course and be a trainer, available. City and guilds will give you a diploma in ...

Re: Couple of Raw Feeding Q's

I raw feed my dogs and cats in the same room. Its very simple. At first when one finishes eating , call it over and get it to sit (my dogs win the food race everytime tbh) then I slowly give it some cooked meat until the next ones done, call it over etc. So the dogs learn to come sit next to me when...

Re: New from Banbury UK

Ah Banbury, the lovely coffee stink :) I'm from the home of the cobblers. I'd make sure your dogs have plenty of room to themselves so they dont feel to confined together and make sure they get plenty of rewards when they are close. It will take a while before they both adjust but keep an eye and mo...

Re: EPI German Shepherd

Have you considered making your own treats? You need a dehydrator and a food processor though. Cook up a joint of meat and once its cooled blend it up in a food mixer. Add the ratio of enzyme you guys usually use and incubate it as normal. Then pipe it through a plastic bag with the corner cut of in...

Re: How often...?

A perfect example of a life reward. Clip on a lead when the people arrive. Get the dog to sit before he gets a greeting/fuss. Then work on a sit-stay for the greeting fuss. Then increase the time he has to sit and stay for before he greets. The reward is to say hello to the new folk, but he is slowl...

Re: How often...?

Every interaction I have with my dogs is training imo. If I am playing with them (the best form of training) I will ask for a command during the game before I continue. If they want up on the sofa a nice sit before they jump up is asked for etc. The goal to having a well trained dog is by finding as...

From the way you descirbed it no, I doubt you could have done anything differently. The only thing i'd learn from it is not to ride a bike tbh (everyone I know who does has a metal plate in them somewhere :| )

The only ones I have found to actually work are the "guide dog in training - do not disturb" shirts.
