Re: 3 Year Old Puppy
As she has so little interaction with dogs I wondered if that was the cause of her lack of manners, It seems counter intuitive that keeping them away from other dogs will give them better dog skills and it took me some time to get on board with this idea but when I did Honey got MUCH better at her ...

Re: Nothing In Life Is Free
My view is, like pretty much any type of dog training, the principle of NILIF can and has been abused, going from "you can't just have whatever you want whenever you want it, you have to have some manners" to "I will control your every movement". Like Emmabeth I'm a fan of plenty...

Susan Garrett's Recallers
A couple of days ago I signed up for Susan Garrett's Recallers. For anyone who doesn't know anything about It's a distance learning course, with an on-line community, a few live group web sessions with Susan and daily training plans for short burst training. It's an 8 week course but the material an...

Re: Sandy has me at the end of my rope-HELP!
Thanks for the suggestions also from Minkee, Claremarsh (you understand chis), and CarolineLovesDogs. I think breed is interesting and relevant in training but I think the individual dog itself is far more important and that it's too easy to get hung up on what a breed should or shouldn't do. I do ...

Re: SPARCS
I don't know if what I said just made sense, it's a big topic and I'm finding it hard to be clear! What I am sad about, though, is missing both of P McConnell's talks :< Lou if you can find $99 to become a member you will have access to all the videos (once they upload 2014s) for a year plus all of...

Re: SPARCS
To be fair to Honey that puppy screaming freaked me out too  I've only watched some of it so far, I've got membership now so once the vids are up I'm going to watch more of it. I've been watching with alongside a friend and we've been chatting on Facebook as we've watched which I've found a rea...

Along similar lines, I "liked" this page as I saw a photo that Dogs Today magazine posted. There's no doubt this guy is a talented photographer, however I wonder if he knows that some of the great shots he's getting are of very uncomfortable dogs? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Paul-Croes-...

Re: Sandy has me at the end of my rope-HELP!
Diane, I'm really sorry to read this, I'm sorry for all of you, you, Sandy and your husband, it's not what any of you would have chosen for yourselves. I think Nettle said it all on Sandy's POV and you have expressed how you feel, I hope when you have recovered a little you'll be able to separate yo...

Re: To a professional or go it alone?
I see no reason to trim him at all............ just keep him clean and combed but I see no trimming required. If his feet get a lot of coat growing between the toes you can neaten that up a bit to keep him from tracking stuff in the house.......... but unless he gets TONS more coat, leave him natur...

Re: To a professional or go it alone?
Sorry this has been missed. If it were me I'd want to learn how to do it myself to avoid the costly and time consuming trips to the groomers. Plus not all groomers are created equal and some may end up making him more fearful of being handled rather than help him relax :? I wonder if you could find ...

The boys remind more of what Ted would be like if he found an interesting scent, it's interesting but his life isn't going to end if he doesn't find the source.

Re: No interest in treats anymore
I've spent a long long time looking for the "perfect" reward for Pops. And short of carrying around an actual real live rabbit everywhere, I'm not sure it exists  I love that you've given this some thought  Ted is a bit like this in as much as he's not that food motivated (E...
