Re: Bathing a 90 Lb dog who hates water

Dixie-baby absolutely adores a good brushing. It really surprised me because I figured she'd be scared of it the first time we tried to do it. She sat there and took it, then went and sniffed and came back for more. When I stopped brushing she'd nose the hand with the brush in it.

Re: Lump on puppy's neck

My weenies formed pockets around their vaccinations several years ago (before we got them). So they have what feels like little marbles under their neck skin. Since then their previous owner (and we) get their vaccinations in their hiney.

Re: New Dog, Need Help

Kong has a new set of toys out that are meant to interlock into one another to make larger toys. They're puzzle type toys made of rubber, so that might be a better option.

Re: Wish I had known about Victoria before

Oh I completely agree. I absolutely screwed by Bru-by up. Poor boy. He's much better now than he used to be, but it's all our fault. I can't tell you how many times we did the alpha roll crap and almost lay on him to keep him down while he flipped out.

Lennox still isn't home and they're not allowing the family to see him.

Re: Bathing Dog

My biggies are indoor/outdoor pups. During the day when we're at work and the weather's nice they hang out outside because I want them crated as little as possible. Personally I find the only smell they have is sunshine. Yes, I swear my dogs' coats smell like sunshine. I love that smell and I'll bur...

Wait is stay here, I'll release you to come to me. As in "wait in the car 'til I get out" or "wait for me to get through the gate first." Stay is, you stay here, I'll come back and get you.

Re: "drop it" = constant free treats

I promise you, she doesn't know it's off limits. Dogs don't have the thought process "oh that's mommy's new shoe, I should really leave it alone." To dogs, whatever is in their reach is fair game to them. The best way to keep her from picking it up at all is to just put it away. I'm tellin...

Re: Working On Stay

I'm inclined to say that the dogs really do need their own crates, that might be wrong and if I am wrong then I'm sure someone will advise otherwise, but the crates should be places a dog can go to be left alone--it's sanctuary. We have 4 dogs and 4 separate crates. My guest bedroom has become the d...

Re: Question On Training While On Leash

Are you wanting to do off-leash work in your enclosed back yard, or are you talking about in an open area? When we were beginning to train my beagle we would have him on leash for training while we were physically in class, but other than that we did it off-leash in our enclosed backyard. He was a v...

Re: "drop it" = constant free treats

Smart dogs really keep you on your toes. My beagle did this grabbing of random stuff just to be told to drop it to get a treat, and it was infuriating and funny and frustrating all at the same time. My first piece of advice is to put away things you don't want to be grabbed. I bought beautiful pillo...

Re: An empty dining room...

Will the HS keep you updated on the puppers? They said I can check in on them whenever I wanted to. While we were on the waiting list I was in contact with the director via email, so I'll probably check in with her that way. I want to volunteer as a dog walker at the HS, but I'm afraid to do it whi...

Re: I think it's that season...

I did today out of sheer boredom and the fact that the edge of them that's embroidered has been ridiculously wrinkled and it was driving me crazy. I don't make it a habit of ironing sheets, but it's summer vacation and I'm pretty bored.
