Re: Crate training and puppy bitting

It's normal :) The trick to putting the toy in the mouth is to recognize the look he gets BEFORE he's going to latch on to something and put the toy in his mouth then. You could attempt to do time-outs when he grabs things like that. When he grabs at those things pick him up without talking or makin...

Re: Unpredictable Aggression

These two are NEVER going to be left alone with the run of the house. They are either in their own houses or I am keeping an eye. I am actually a big fan of Cesar Millan and he does have a balanced pack of dogs so he must be doing something right. I don't understand the criticism. My husband and I ...

Re: Loose Tooth

Yep, they're nasty little buggies. We used to have tons of them, now we just have a rogue ant hill or two. The summer we moved into the house we had them in the front and back yard. We'd heard that pouring boiling water on the hills would kill them, so like a little trooper I boiled pot after pot of...

Re: Loose Tooth

When J gets home this evening I'll have him hold Kole so I can take a pic. Poor Kole can't catch a break lately. He was limping yesterday, so I checked his foot to see what was up. It looks like something has bit him between his little foot pads (I'm thinking ant) so it's all itchy and from where he...

Re: Bella & Diesel....mini dachshunds...

I watched this video on youtube to learn how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q1jV0VDpMQ

I've heard that picking them up like you would a toddler (from the front armpits) can hurt their backs.

Re: Loose Tooth

I just checked Kole's mouth... the tooth is gone. My poor gap-toothed baby!

Re: Rough day for teething puppy

Bruiser liked to teethe on a knotted, wet washcloth. I have no idea why he liked it wet and not frozen, but he liked it knotted once in the middle and damp.

Re: Bella & Diesel....mini dachshunds...

I have two minis. Neither of mine care for dogs that are bigger than them. Mine also "shark" when they try to take a treat (especially small ones). It is possible to get them to take them softly though. I've learned it's easier for them to take a treat that's flat on my palm instead of try...

Re: New puppy, 1st post. Question about crating during the day

You could look up dog walkers/pet sitters in your area. They would be able to come and let her out to go potty if needed. The day my husband and I got married we had 11 dogs living at our and we were going to be gone from very early that morning until our friends got to our house very late that nigh...

Re: Loose Tooth

He despises having his teeth brushed. I'll talk to our vet about the pulse therapy and possibly having dental work done if needed when we take him in for a check-up.

Re: Loose Tooth

He's going to be 8 this year and he is a dachshund--his teeth are awful. When we got him his back teeth had so much plaque build up that it could be broken off in chunks by the vet's fingernail. His back teeth aren't so bad anymore, but his front canines are pretty gross. He woke up this morning and...

Loose Tooth

One of Kole's front teeth has moved so that it's jutting out a bit forward (imagine if you were to bite down on your thumb and then slide it out of your mouth and the bottom of the tooth moved forward). I think Kole's not feeling well, he's been a little clingy and seems to be running on the warm si...

Re: Do you think this is okay?

During the winter when it's cold and during the summer when it's EXTREMELY hot Bruiser and Dixie stay in their crates. Jason will leave for work at 7:45 and crate them, come home for lunch around noon. Potty and play for 30 minutes or so and I'm home anywhere between 4-5. They do well with it. They ...

Re: A puppy 0 to 2 years old.

I think Bruiser's actually starting to mellow out some, he's only a year and 8 mos, so I'm not sure if it's maturity or what. Definitely not as calm as he COULD be, but we're seeing little things here and there that would have previously sent us into a major meltdown not being such a huge deal anymo...
