Dogs and a new baby?
Hello everybody! I just found out I am expecting our first baby. So my question is, how do I prepare my dogs for this over the next several months? I am learning my dogs are not always as quick to learn things as I would like so I want to get started on this as soon as I can. I figure I will have en...

Re: New rescue dog
Hello guys. Ok, heres where we are with Zippy and what I have been doing. I let him follow me around the house as I am going from room to room and ignore him unless I have asked him to come with me. I have gone in and out the door outside a zillion times, and mostly he is fine with that. He only occ...

Re: Good Zippy story!
Thanks guys! This was my first real woo-hoo moment where I really thought wow, we are really getting somewhere. I am so happy for him (me too, but mostly him). So now I know he doesn't think its the worst thing ever. Its been really weird. He got neutered on Monday and I worried that he would think ...

I am so excited! Imagine me doing the Snoopy dance :D So Zippy has hated being in cage and we have really worked with that. This morning I put his fresh water and kong with pb in his cage and went to get the turkey. When I came back from the kitchen to find Zippy, guess where he was??? Standing in h...

do dogs sense illness?
I was reading something on here that got me thinking. Do dogs know when someone, or another animal is sick, and does it cause them to act differently? I ask because I had an old shih tzu who lived to be 16, that went blind and had arthritis, and one of my other dogs Jake always growled and snarled a...

Re: To laugh or cry...
I had thought about that, because the main places he seems to mark in is the bathroom, and next to any litter boxes. Like "hey, u do it here why can't I". I have 3 litter boxes that I clean out usually twice a day. But with a dogs nose, I know it still has to smell. I wonder if I could tra...

I have to share this story just because its really too funny not to. This morning I got up and took Zippy out first thing as usual. He peed alot, did his business and we came in. After I get ready for work we (me and all the dogs) went downstairs so I could take them all out. Keep in mind, I am stil...

Re: Winter is coming soon
Ok, I was reading all these posts and first I want to say to those of you who will have warm and dry winters, whats your address and can I come visit :D We usually get quite a bit of ice where I live, atleast one storm that will knock the power out for 3-4 days, and some snow. Not looking forward to...

Re: Thundershirt problems???
Thank you Mattie. I was very happy to know there is nothing serious wrong. Allergies I can handle :D As far as his behavior goes, I learned some new things. My husband works out of town and was home over the weekend so he enlightened me on a few things. Zippy is very attached to me. If I go outside ...

Re: Thundershirt problems???
Good news. Zippy does not have collapsing trachea or heartworms and his heart looks good. Xrays were done today and everything looks normal! :D :D Im very glad to hear all that, so that narrows it down mostly to allergies. So now I have to cut out as much as I can in our house to find out what it is...

Re: Zippy has collaping trachea..
They told when I called the shelter that they gave him one of the monthly things, but they didn't test him first. I usually give mine heartguard from like the end of March until the 1st frost which was last month so I haven't bought any for him yet. (Those months cover the mosquito season where I li...
