Re: Raw Food Diet
It wasn't completely clear from your post, but it sounds as if he is pooping in the house without even asking to go out. If so, this sounds like a training issue rather than a diet issue. But if you believe it is the raw diet, try taking him off of it and put him on your food of choice for awhile an...

Re: How farming changed the dog
I also have to go by what I see. My cats became noticeably healthier when I switched them to a grain free kibble years ago. (I tried and tried, but could not get my cats to accept a raw diet. They just would not have it.) On grain free kibble they became a healthier weight (and I keep their bowls fi...

Re: Resource guarding - Do I need to re-home her?
I hope she hasn't been spayed because female dogs mature practically in front of your eyes after the first season, and if you can hang on through a second season, you will get an even better dog. I took this same advice when I got my puppy over five years ago and I am so glad I did. I let my dog go...

Re: Pyometra advice please
I'm with you on this one Rnor. I have been down the Pyo road many times (once as a pet owner, many times as a vet tech) and this is one diagnosis that I feel needs an immediate response, and that is a full spay.

Re: Pyometra advice please
Pyometra is life-threatening. You are such a great owner that you noticed the symptoms so early. Most do not. I would get her into a new vet appointment today and get that second opinion as quickly as possible. Wishing your sweet pup well and hoping she is soon on the mend. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Getting my dog to sleep through the night
Have you tried the CD, Through A Dog's Ear? This worked like a charm for Piper when she was younger and was getting me up in the night. I didn't mind at all of course when she really had to potty, but she got into the habit of sometimes just wanting to go out at 2:00 am to explore a bit or lay down ...

Re: How chatty are smooth/rough collies?
I had a rough collie growing up, my uncle had a rough collie up until a few years ago and my daughter has one now. They all have been barky. All were raised from pups and all were very, very talky. Most folks I speak with that have or had collies say the same thing. I do not know if the smooth colli...

Re: Thoughts on becoming a veterinary technician
I was a vet tech for many years (and am actually getting back into it after a few years off) and while I had opportunities to educate people, my time to do so was very limited. So I thought of it more as "planting seeds". I would give them just enough info to pique their interest and then ...

Re: Losing your best friend
I am so sorry for you loss! I have know the emptiness and the heartache too many times myself (the only downside to being an animal lover I guess). There were times, with some of my animals, when I thought I would never stop mourning, but I did. And it got better. And now I can look back on them wit...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I wish people would just make fireworks without noise. Apparently, they do. I read this year about a town in Italy that passed a law that for the sake of the dogs, only silent fireworks would be allowed. A little research shows there are companies who make silent fireworks. They are probably not as...
