Re: stealing toys
I would say in addition to nettles advice, maybe work on a solid "drop it" and then trade for a doggy toy. If your dog is turning it into a chase game unless there is a danger to the dog from the toy, don't fall for it. He might be thinking "i grab toy, people chase me...oh this is fu...

Re: 'leave it' command w/cats
Ya, it took me a couple reads to click you meant dogs learn "leave it" in regards to your cats. I don't know that what Patricia did with her dog, will be appropriate for your situation. what I wanted to convey is there is hope. But if your dealing with a hunting instinct vs a herding insti...

Re: 'leave it' command w/cats
Here is an interesting couple blog posts from a trainer and her issue with her dog and cat. Don't know if it will help give you ideas for your situation, but its a interesting read. http://www.theotherendoftheleash.com/all-incompatible-behaviors-are-not-equal/ http://www.theotherendoftheleash.com/wi...

Re: excited barking when walking
I want to add you might consider putting off up close socialization for a while. If your dog erupts at 20 yards at whatever is her trigger, stay 25 yards away for a while. and slowly work closer over time as she shows she is ready. since these reactions are often from fear, don't put your dog any cl...

Re: Need help with fear aggressive barking...I think
I was wondering if this might be the fearful stage. I would also strongly encourage you to find a new trainer, but this time one that works with you and the dog. Even if you find a better trainer, leaving your dog with them in hopes of getting a "fixed" dog in return isn't going to work. Y...

Re: My Dogs Lead Me!
I also used matties thread about lose leash. at first my dog wasn't getting it. but I started playing chase at the enclosed dog park (him chasing me) and that actually helped. soon at the dog park he would follow me almost perfect without the leash. I also in the house held a treat next to my knee a...

Re: Understanding aggression
this thread was a general info thread rather then a how to. But until you can get some specific help the best thing to do is if you know what the trigger is...avoid it as much as possible. example, if the trigger is another dog. when you see another dog change directions and stay calm. or cross the ...

Re: excessive barking
As someone with a Jack Russel mix, I can tell you Matti and Emmabeth are spot on with their advice. Exercise and mental stimulation are a MUST for JRs. Once I understood this, life with my dog is getting better every day. Another thing I have learned that helps is that exercise and mental stimulatio...

Re: Found Puppy
a vet should be able to check for microchips. my dog is chipped and when we took over at this first wellness check I asked the vet if they would run the chip and confirm the info change associated with the chip was all correct.

Re: where am i going wrong
sounds like you dog knows click = treat, and since it sounds like sit and down are known it might be time to try something new. I also just started working with a clicker and my dog and I noticed when the behavior is pretty well known (ie sit) then my dog focused on the clicker or ignored the clicke...

Re: Freestyle Dog Training To Music
not an expert by any means but I did find a couple sites that might help you. http://www.dogmantics.com/Dogmantics/Home.html http://www.youtube.com/user/kikopup from what I can tell you work on each individual behavior first that you want to put into your dance. then you put it all together. there a...
