Re: petting a dog

Absolutely.. We didn't take Ari, just us 2-legged attended.. Seems odd the OP hasnt comne back and responded.....makes me feel this is definitely a troll type post. But excellent thoughts and comments have been posted on this anyway, will be of value to all readers, regardless of the OP's motives he...

Re: petting a dog

Yes, RLW, indeed... While all the people enjoyed being able to come up to almost any dog at the show, and touch it, I am afraid that some may try putting their own dogs in this extremely stressful situation. This is the downside. I wish there was some sort of warning there, explaining to visitors th...

Re: petting a dog

On a lighter note, folks - we attended today the annual AKC/TICA "Meet the Breeds" event in New York. 160 dog breeds, 50 cat breeds, in one place, lots of people, crowd... Everyone wants to come over and meet (and pet!) the animals. Now, these were not your average household dogs, of cours...

Re: Yowling when left in the evening

Everything is easier when a dog is tired. This is how we built up Ari's ability to stay home alone. We can comfortably leave him for a few hours now at any point in the day, or for the entire evening. However, before we leave him, we always try to tire him out with an enjoyable exercise - a long wal...

Re: Help! Advice Please!

On the surface this seems to me a case of an underexercised, bored dog, who doesn't have enough physical activity or mental stimulation, based on your description of her staying indoors by herself most of the time. But if you could describe a typical Nova's day in more detail - it may be helpful for...

Re: Jindo and Recall

We used to let Ari off leash is large nature parks much more often when he was younger, then we do now (he is 14 months). I am not that worried about him running after a deer or a rabbit. He would chase him for a min or 2, then decide that it's too much trouble and come back. But I am worried about ...

Re: petting a dog

When Ari was 5-6 months old, we would intentionally expose him to humans by taking him on walks through downtown streets on weekends (lots of people out on the streets). He didn't mind, actually he liked being the center of attention, and was curious of all the surroundings. And he was a very cute p...

Re: Good dog, but a few problems!

Perhaps consider wearing a harness outside. This alone won't cure the lunging problem, but it may help prevent an injury to his little neck, and also reduce the risk of him escaping from his collar and attacking a bus or a dog.

Re: Aggression to just 1 particular dog, need advice

I think he remembers where scraps have happened, and he's occassionally touchy if he meets another dog in the exact same place, (any dog, not the one which went for him) This is very interesting... I noticed this - sometimes Ari seems a bit tighter then usual when we encounter someone or something ...

Re: Aggression to just 1 particular dog, need advice

Just wanted to give an update on this, with many thanks for everyone's comments. 1 - While Ari's injuries were minimal, the other dog needed several visits to his vet before he could resume his walks. Poor guy! But this highlighted for us the lethal power of our 90 lbs puppy and the severity of the ...

Re: Pandering (acknowledging needs) v staying put (desensitise)

Perhaps size plays a role in how we approach this. With smaller size dogs we have an option, if everything else fails, to simply pick her up and carry to the vet, or across the busy street, or into the elevator. She may not be very pleased being forced in this manner, but if really needed - this can...
