Re: The ladydog and being on heat

I think Quorra must be coming into heat as well, it's been 6 months since she had her first (at 8 months old) and she's starting to act differently. Outside she is peeing more often, her nose is often to the ground sniffing, and she is struggling to listen to us out on walks; much like her first hea...

Re: Hi

Della, have you tried 101 Things to improve Laufey's creativity? It takes the dog a while to understand that you want them to find new things to do, but once they pick it up, they can offer some really interesting behaviours! That might encourage him to try new things, and make free shaping more pos...

Re: Malamute mix

Sorry Shell if my reply wasn't very clear; that wasn't what I was implying. I'll try and be a little clearer. What I was trying to say is that behaviours can be trained away from their natural reactions; for example with fetch, Quorra was happy to chase the ball and 'kill it', but never used to brin...

Re: Malamute mix

I would have to agree with Caroline slightly here. I have a malamute who has no problem with dog aggression, does recall, loves water, will play fetch etc. All of which are the exact opposite of the malamute cliche, all because of the way she has been reared. She might not have been born with an inn...

Re: Vent!

Not really a vent but I wasnt sure where else to put this. An old school friend of mine has just bred her Labradoodle to make some F2 puppies. From what I read both the dam and sire are working retrievers . The thing is, they're are keeping two of the puppies; both little girls.... I hope she has go...

Re: Vent!

Wow I wonder what could lead a dog to attack a tree. I haven't seen any of Zak's more recent videos, but that one sounds like its worth a watch :) I'll have to go find it later I have no problem with him at all, any way people can make force-free training work is great! Personally I just can't get i...

Re: Vent!

I think Zak George is very much a trainer for simplier issues; not saying this is a problem. I just don't think he's ever uploaded a video involving a dog with behavioural problems (correct me if I'm wrong) but deals with everyday training dilemma's that everyone goes through with a puppy (leash wal...

Re: Drop it

You said before that you used a clicker? This might be another chance to use it. Using a technique called 'back-chaining'. With behaviours that involve a chain of events, the trainer starts from the end action, and teach their way backwards. There a lot of videos out there which teach a formal retri...

Re: Other dogs

We made a breakthrough today with Quorra that might help you :) When playing fetch, if a new dog comes into view, she can ignore them because she's having move fun with us. Playing fetch with Quorra using a squeaky tennis ball is more reinforcing to her than seeing other dogs. With Laufey being part...

Re: Other dogs

I've see so much change in Quorra due to bad encounters that have happened despite my best efforts. The last couple times we've met other dogs out an about, she has rolled right onto her back, tail between her legs. I'm really worried that it'll lead to fear or aggression, so I understand your fears...
