Re: Help with my dog's anxiety
I've seen some pretty amazing results with a body wrap http://www.crvetcenter.com/bodywrap.htm and have been hearing very good reports about the Thundershirt www.thundershirt.com. I sometimes dab a little lavendar or peppermint on the wrap. For some dogs, rescue remedy or DAP are also useful. It's i...

Re: Our dog is scared of us
Just some general thoughts. Herding breeds can be very sensitive to use of space. And often, what we see a trying to make friends - reaching towards them, getting in their space, leaning over, can be uncomfortable. And it may be less fear than it is just the sensitivity to personal space. And if we ...

Re: Jealous or territorial??
Agree with advice already posted. He is probably conflicted, wanting to interact, but also worried. Being on leash can be frustrating too, as he can't interact the way he would off leash, and some dogs are great without the leash but vocal and reactive on leash because they can't communicate natural...

Re: Still peeing in the house and I've done everything suggested
Katherine pm me and in this she said that she didn't think 2 hours between going outside was too long because they waited until about 20 minutes after then came in to toilet, . So, that could be an important pattern to know. Exactly the reason I suggest that people struggling with housetraining kee...

Re: Still peeing in the house and I've done everything suggested
As to the statement about even adult dogs needing to be let out every hour, I'm hoping that advice is for un-housebroken dogs? I know I frequently expect mine to wait longer than that without discomfort. I agree with most of what has been written here - go out with them. Supervise carefully, Limit ...

I forgot about the not able to eat well for clicker training. You do need to be able to connect the click to something he wants. What about a soft food or paste in a tube? If he likes it, you can put just a dab on his tongue or lips.

Re: Training Chihuahua w/ a Head Trauma...
I might not assume he's always going to be "special needs." Head trauma does heal, and especially when the victim is very young. In small children, puppies, etc. the neural pathways are still forming, and if there is a damaged area, especially in the very young, they can wire around it. I ...

Re: Training Chihuahua w/ a Head Trauma...
This really doesn't sound like a training or behavior problem, but a physical problem. Even if nothing shows up on xray, the seizures when he fell tells me he had some pretty significant brain trauma. It's going to take him a while to get over that, but with his young age, it's likely he'll be norma...

Re: Highly reactive/anxious dog... Please help!
Nettle, I'm not a big fan of medicating either. I was asked to put him on Prozac almost a year back and I had refused. I thought that we could do it the right way and we would overcome it. I live in an apartment complex and sometimes people don't understand! I don't blame them, because I'm sure it ...

Maybe she needs to be on-leash (long line) in situations where finding carrion is likely (at least for now). There are simply things in the environment which we can't hope to compete with (unless we've put considerable work and management into having things our way.) I'd start with teaching her to ...

Re: Calming Cap
Dogs can still see through these caps, they just can't see quite so clearly. One of the UK's best known trainers uses them for reactive dogs but says they are not suitable for every dog. Have you ever put one on? (I'm weird. Even taste test some of my dogs' treats - not the lamb lung though) You ca...

Re: Informal TTouch seminar in my local pet store today
Did I really just see that happen? Mattie, and anyone else with experience in this, can a wrap really have that effect on a fearful dog like Murphy or could this have been a fluke? We took him back to the other side of the store and took the wrap off. Then Carl told me to take Murphy back to the ca...

Re: Growling and Biting Visitors!!!!!!!
If you are wanting to re-introduce her to having people in the house, I would set up training visits. Keep her on leash, and at a distance, and reward her for relaxing, and for responding to cues. Don't try to work on her behavior and entertain guests at the same time - much better to set up people ...

Re: Urgent advice needed
Thanks! I have no alternative because he's damaged my tendon and the jerks send me reeling in pain. I think for now until I'm better we'll just have to stay in and play inside the house and make do with runs when we can. :? Thank you for your help :) So is he tethered to a chain outside? ? That ten...
