cariadandkitty Hi. You are not alone. There's light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it's a long tunnel. :) It's a shame you've had a bad experience with the shelter. Dogs can sometimes behave quite differently in shelter and foster environments. It sounds like your trainer friend has the good oi...

Hi. People may see this type of thing inside a bubble. It's a big topic. Best wishes.

Re: Mixed feelings
This is an ethical and possibly legal topic. I can see this from different angles, but killing other animals is not something I'd ever encourage in a pet dog.

Hi. I remember a clip on youtube about 'asking' a dog if it likes being pet. Towards the end it shows some dog appeasement signals. Cheers.

Re: Consistent good walking on leash
Hi. Just wondering if your dog is deaf, or zoning out. If deaf, a light touch should get your dog's attention. A structured basic obedience class with Positive Reinforcement only, might help with bonding and communication, and training. Walking my independent KelpieX is very stop/start, but that's h...

Re: Dog Aggression Toward Elderly Dogs
Hi. If your dogs' interactions have always needed management, I'd guess it's just an extension of their normal behaviour. Dogs of all ages can take the advantage if it serves them well. Stay safe. Happy new year 2017.

Re: At wits end with rescue border collie mix. Help!
Hi. This is very sad. Chronic stress can be destructive to a dog's well-being. I'd suggest a thorough vet check first, and/or consulting a professional positive-reinforcement-type trainer/behaviourist face to face, to assess the dog's situation and give advice about what's in the best interest of th...

Re: Puppy on a Hunger Strike
Hi. I'd guess it is to do with the smell of the kibble and/or the bowl. In addition to other suggestions, try mixing something smelly/tasty (EG: pet mince, dog sausage, chicken stock or broth, whatever) in with your choice of kibble at mealtime. Just the smells during food prep. may make the pup mor...

Re: Would I be at fault?
Hi. There are regs here where I live that all dogs must be under the owners' direct control, but, further that owners must not allow theirs dogs to be a menace to others. A similar incident happened between one of my dogs and a toy poodle in a narrow pathway a while ago. They walked up quickly behin...

Re: Barking during social situations
Hi. A café can be a stressful environment for a dog and there could be many reasons for barking. Some dogs love people but aren't so fussed about other dogs, or can only cope with small groups. *Every dog is different* but most can tolerate X amount of stress for X amount of time and not more than t...

Re: NEW RESCUE DOG LOVING AND THEN TURNED AGGRESSIVE HELP
Hi. I agree with the advice above but suggest the dog should return to the rescue for the benefit of the dog. Tell them everything you did with the Catahoula, and ask the rescue to help select a more appropriate dog for your circumstances, wants, demands, etc in a dog. It's my opinion that this foru...
