Progress at last, with both dogs
Hi guys, I had to take a break from everything for a while due to stress. I even took a break from working with my dogs, and it was the best thing I could have done. When I left you last, I couldn't get Jock and Peppa to be in the same room comfortably without Peppa bugging the hell out of Jock. I m...

Re: She's "poking the bear" constantly!
I'm going to take a break for a few days, spend some time with my dogs, and figure out exactly what I need to achieve, and by when. Also, what is going to be acceptible for a new house, and go from there. At the moment, I honestly believe I am too stressed to be able to see things clearly, and as yo...

Re: She's "poking the bear" constantly!
Hi guys, I'm giving my dogs as much mental, and physical, stimulation as my situation allows right now. 1. We live on a highway. some 30' from our fence is a 100kph zone with cars, and trucks, barrelling down past our place, usually over the speed limit. We're a rural area with no footpaths. 2. The ...

Re: She's "poking the bear" constantly!
Hi Bendog, Walking isn't an option around here, so we have to make do with running the dogs in the paddocks. I'm trying to make sure both dogs are tired before they come in, however wearing Peppa out is almost impossible. She's bred to go all day, and that's exactly what she does. Jock isn't usually...

She's "poking the bear" constantly!
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone here has some advice for me. My Border Collie girl has no idea how to interact nicely with other dogs. It's my fault because I didn't socialise her, and was unable to put her with my male for a very long time. At the moment, we are doing a LOT of training, in short bu...

Re: Oh My God, he did it! Jock did it!
Okay, so we've got backwards about three steps with Jock. He was going happily into the crate, and although not overly happy once in there, he would do as I asked, and stay. 10 seconds later he'd be called out to worlds of praise. Today, although I'm feeling a little off, I thought we'd do it again....

Oh My God, he did it! Jock did it!
So, Jock has always been fearful of pens, crates and kennels. He'd much rather sit out in a storm with torrential rains and terrifying winds than go into any small space. I've been working with him these last few weeks, and today, he did it! I have a collapsable crate that my young female sleeps in,...

Re: My 3 dogs - Pippa, Jock and Peppa
Hey Teddy, My back was shocking yesterday. It took all my strength NOT to scream the house down at one stage, and after my hubby picked me up off the floor, I had to convince him not to call an ambulance. My back is particularly tetchy, but only because they've changed my pain medication from tablet...

Re: Fantastic result! I'm so proud :)
Hi JudyN, I hadn't even thought of that. My Jock doesn't have much in the way of spare skin either. If it was my girl, I'd say, don't think it'd be a problem, but with him, hmmm. All the more reason to get him happy in his crate. At this stage it's vitally important though because we are about to be...

Re: Fantastic result! I'm so proud :)
Oh, and yesterday I managed to get Jock to go halfway into one of the crates after a bone treat. He wasn't real happy, but instead of just sitting there and whinging, he actually put both front, and one back foot into the crate. I know it doesn't sound like much, but for him, it's like jumping the G...

Fantastic result! I'm so proud :)
Hi Guys, My Border Collie ***** was not well socialised as a puppy, my fault I know, and not a mistake I'll ever make again. Anyway, for months on end she has been barking and grumbling at anyone and everyone that doesn't belong in the house. From the safety of her crate, she gives everyone a right ...

Re: Hi all, can someone help please?
Hey Emmabeth, Thank you for the advice. I don't care how long it takes to get him comfortable with his crate, so long as we get there in the end. He's got a favourite blanket that is his 'mat' when he comes inside (you'd think it's a palace the way he is with it), so i can use that to get him used t...

Re: My 3 dogs - Pippa, Jock and Peppa
All of them look so gorgeous and healthy. I've read your other post about them and really feel sorry to hear what'd happened to them. anw, it's alright now, they're happy and you're happy too. p.s: Pippa is my favorite one, hehe. Pippa is very happy, actually, they all seem to be right now. They're...

Re: Why do they pile more gear on?
Hi Maxy24, Gringo is a leash biter, and that's why they muzzled him. He's bitten through a few leashes so far apparently and they were getting sick of replacing them. They also tried a chain lead which led to him breaking a tooth (or splitting one) apparently. In the safety of my yard, every time he...

Re: Why do they pile more gear on?
I hope that I can help them both, if she'll let me. The dog seems really nice, maybe a little exuberant, but then he's only about 12 months old so still a puppy. I'm guilty of trying to replicate what I see on television with my own dogs, but only if I truly understand how, why and if it will do abs...
