Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Completely agree with you JudyN :D A stranger trying to put a lead on P would most likely make things a whole lot worse, not better... But then again he'd never be off lead harassing dogs in the first place. As I said, I would only consider using it if there is no other option and there generally is...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Delladoo, I always carry a spare lead for emergencies (if a clip breaks or I need it for another dog)- I would have no problem using it to get someone else's dog away from mine if I had no other option ;) I've only ever used it once and that was to catch a runaway and go on mission to find owner.. B...

Re: No pull harness

I love the Perfect Fit harness and have it for my own dog, but we use the Freedom one for a couple of dogs at the rescue I volunteer at and its pretty decent in my opinion- as long as it's fitted properly (NOT too tight) ;)

Re: Jasper's funny habit

I have no idea Judy but When Ari likes someone, it starts with sniffing with no regard to personal privacy... which unfortunately means that the next time we meet the same lady - she will try to pass us on the other side of the street, much to Ari's disappointment :( Or he will try to engage the per...

Re: Inter-male aggression

Out with my friend and her 15 year old son, I saw so much of this behaviour that I had trouble keeping my face straight. Only difference was all the males he met were entire  Honestly - you are doing a GREAT job. He cannot be worse than this otherwise very nice boy who is convinced that everyo...

Re: Harness problems

What happens if you use a double ended lead attached to both collar and harness? Just a thought ;)

Re: Inter-male aggression

Thanks MBF :) Is P a hunter? Occasionally Kelly dog gets agitated/growly/barky at certain spots in the garden where a Carpet python used to curl up in the sun. The snake is long gone (I think) but she still reacts to the same areas at times. She shows similar intense behaviour at recent scent of scu...

Re: Inter-male aggression

As you know, you have my sympathies   I can only go by my experience with Jasper. I'm undecided about his level of insecurity - generally he won't fly into a rage if the other dog is bigger than him, which includes muscly mastiff types, but he will with a small dog. Thanks  P is the...

Inter-male aggression

I could really use some input from the wealth of knowledge that = you guys ;) I'm not gonna re-cap on Precious as most of you know him by now I think, and my question is also a general one; but if you need any particular info just say. With regards to other dogs I'm having 2 different reactivity pro...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Finally! We are making some real progress I think. Walked Precious around the park today, where lots of playing dogs and their owners tend to congregate in the middle. We haven't gone that way in ages when it's been busy, as P would always get agitated/ reactive/ refuse to move on/ fixate on a dog h...

Re: help with year old GSD

You've been given very good advice already, I second (third :?: ) everything Nettle and MFB said ;) I think you really need to try and change the evening routine completely for a while; if it's been going on for 2-3 months like this I suspect he's not only learnt that shouting/ jumping at mum/ dad i...
