Help please...

Idk what happened but it's happened once before... So I'm at my parent's house and brought Rusty back home with me and all the dogs get along great and always have... Except since Rusty has been at my apartment with me and since my family has been living with Tiva and her owner, something strange ha...

Re: Petrified of Flies

Haha! What a thought JudyN!

Would be funny if he decided after being thrown tasty raisins that flies were a tasty treat instead!

Too bad they are bad for dogs!

Re: Petrified of Flies

Yes, I agree with JudyN. Always make sure to take things very slow and at your dog's pace. It is very important not to move faster than what he's comfortable with or else you can make the situation worse. I was just simply saying that you don't need to be worried about making him worse just by click...

Re: Petrified of Flies

Is there any volume or distance that your hubby's phone can be at where he notices it but does not freak out? If it were me, I would try to start there and do a lot of desensitization to the noise of the fly. You can't reinforce fear, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. :) Hopefully others will...

Re: I Rescued A Fear Biter

I'm so sorry you had to go through this... I know I would be absolutely devastated if this had happened to me... I'm so glad Zeek got to be with such a good person though for the rest of his days. I think you did the most humane and responsible thing you could for him and came out with a lesson you ...

Re: Now here's a real hard one...

Judy- I told my family that for now, she should not be allowed on the couch until we know we can safely get her off. She also will sometimes respond to commands when they are said in a very soft voice if she is focused on you, if not, she will just take you saying a command as "stop what I'm do...

Re: Now here's a real hard one...

Well I will be home for a good amount of time during winter break and I really want to help her. I think my family would be willing to help her if they knew how. I just don't know where to start... I would love to be able to exercise her body and mind but she doesn't show interest in games of any so...

Now here's a real hard one...

I posted earlier about Tiva the border collie mix who was attacking doors and over sensitive. I can now say that I've spent significantly more time with her over Thanksgiving break here and now have a much more in depth scoop on her life and behavior. Unfortunately, it seems a lot worse than I origi...

Re: Adopting a Dog

That would be my worst nightmare  But on a more serious note, I agree with Sabrina. I would look into a positive reinforcement trainer and have their references, credentials, etc. in hand when going to talk to them. Perhaps say you will give them some sort of proof (like a receipt or something)...

Did she just say "Leader of the Pack"?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_805960099&feature=iv&src_vid=mj5XYy3p7ZI&v=G8BUwGE6z40 Wow, that really took me by surprise! I had to watch it atleast 5 times to believe she said it. I didn't think Victoria believed in the "Pack Leader" mentality? Am I mis...

Re: Parent's dog attacking doorknobs

I have actually not *seen* her attack a doorknob myself. However, I was outside the door when Tiva and her owner were in the bathroom together and all of a sudden I heard a thump and a whine and the doorknob jiggling and then of course the hitting and yelling followed after. I haven't been able to r...

Re: Parent's dog attacking doorknobs

Yeah, I figured obsession too. Border Collies are my favorite breed of dog and I am well aware of their need for mental and physical exercise, but they don't want to spend their time "entertaining a dog". I hope I will be able to get through to them or at least convince them to rehome her....

Parent's dog attacking doorknobs

Well, good news is that Rusty is now living with me at college where he goes on a half hour walk every day (that's all he can do before getting tired) and gets fed nice, healthy food! Now with that aside, I can't say such happy things about my mom's friend's border collie mix (both mom's friend and ...
