Re: And then he does something SO sweet ...

They do this so we can't help but love them Michelle. My evil hound from hell cuddles up to me and takes care of me after I have a seizure. If he hears a bang when I'm in the shower and my husband isn't home he comes rushing in to check on me. Not sure what he'd do if I'd fallen or something but it...

And then he does something SO sweet ...

I know i post a lot about my "beast" and how difficult he is to manage outdoors ... so I have to share how sweet he was yesterday, he can be so endearing (which is what is keeping him in my home these days!). I have a very fragile neck and upper back and it doesn't take much to throw it ou...

Keflex reaction?

Hi All: I called the vet today, but she never called back -- must have been a busy day. So I'll see if any of your knowledgeable experts can answer my question! :D I took Gordon to the vet on Saturday because I noticed his penis and groin area are raw and covered with a rash, some of it scabby. It h...

Re: Distressed - Stuck between a rock and hard spot

OK, I've tried for two days to post a response and twice my computer has gone haywire! Third time's the charm .... Thanks again, for all the great help, support, and advice. I'm definitely feeling more optimistic, and I think it's largely because my husband has backed off a little bit. He was totall...

Re: Distressed - Stuck between a rock and hard spot

OK, it's been several days since I've been back on the boards, life has gotten a little crazy. After I wrote the original post I got word that a very dear friend of mine passed away. It was very sudden and unexpected and it's taken me into another realm this past week. At the same time, my son's bir...

Re: Distressed - Stuck between a rock and hard spot

By the way, my partner and I have had more arguments about the dog than any other topic that a married couple typically argues about. But we are slowly but surely getting on the same page. It may be more difficult than Gordon, but you can turn your husband around, too. LOL! At the moment, you...

Re: Distressed - Stuck between a rock and hard spot

Oh! I just ordered that book! (Feisty Fido) I'm glad to hear it was helpful, I'll have to order the other one as well. Thank you all for the support, I appreciate it more than you know. Emmabeth, I'll print off your response about the leash / lead so I can take care of that -- it sounds like a good ...

Re: Distressed - Stuck between a rock and hard spot

Thanks, Jacksdad -- I'd take you up on the referral if I were in your area! (oh, I assume you meant gentle leader! I needed that chuckle!) My biggest issue right now is the husband more than the dog! I agree, it's difficult to reconcile the two "sides" of this dog -- super...

Distressed - Stuck between a rock and hard spot

I'm quite stressed and distressed, not sure what to do! I posted a while back that I was having a trusted trainer / animal behaviorist evaluate Gordon, whom I adopted 2 months ago from the local shelter, because of his out of control behavior on walks and whenever he sees a dog. Walking him has not ...

Re: New dog...

Ha! Tried feeding bits of carrot as a treat (don't want to make him a fat doggie), and he mouthed them, spit them on the ground, and looked at me like, "you have GOT to be kidding me." Can't get him to use the small kong like thing we bought for him...he'll worry it a bit and then just gi...

Re: New dog...

srburk: I recently adopted a shelter dog myself, and my 11 y/o son also really wanted the dog to be "his" and to be attached primarily to him. We had our last dog for almost 14 years, had him since before my son was born, and he was very attached to ME in the family -- wouldn't listen to m...

Re: What does it mean when they back away while barking?

Oh, Dogzrule -- you bring up a good point -- I couldn't tell you the first thing about what the other dogs' behaviors were! I was so focused on Gordon that I really didn't pay attention to them and just hoped that the owner would have the good sense to move their dog away as I moved mine away. I'll ...

Re: What does it mean when they back away while barking?

OK, this question was rolling around in my head all night last night! lol! I was trying to think back to the times that it's happened to figure out if there was any common factor. I woke up at 4:00 this morning with a revelation ... which really sucks because I couldn't get back to sleep after that!...

Re: What does it mean when they back away while barking?

That's what I thought ... I wonder why he's suddenly doing that, whereas up until now he has always been lunging forward (dragging me in the process) trying to move TOWARD another dog ..

What does it mean when they back away while barking?

I forgot to mention this in my last post, so rather than "tack it on" to the previous thread, I'll post it fresh here -- I've noticed recently with Gordon that when we're on our walks and he reacts to another dog, which usually entails him jumping, lunging, twisting, barking, and running t...
