Re: Problems unraveling
So I'm assuming you rehomed her pretty well as soon as she was spayed, then, so she's only been with you a week? In that case as well as not getting the exercise she feels she needs, she will be completely stressed out and very unsettled, so it's understandable that she's so demanding at present. B...

Re: Problems unraveling
Sounds like pretty normal puppy behaviour to me. How old is she? And what breed? I went through months and months and months with poppy having essentially no time to myself, just trying to keep her entertained 24/7. Puzzle boxes, kongs, bully sticks, clicker training. Basically she is bored and so ...

Re: Harness
That will be something I have to work on with her because she pulls and lunges when she sees people or animals. I haven't been able to take her for walks yet though.doggiedad wrote:you could teach your dog to "heel".

This might sound like a stupid question, but how do I do that?bendog wrote:You can still do clicker training though. Just stuff that doesn't involve running around. Train her to put stuff in a basket maybe?

Re: Problems unraveling
More boxes? Clicker training, maybe free shaping with a box? Teach her to play hide and seek? Hide treats under cups and teach her to guess which one they're under? Maybe give her a large cushion/cuddly toy to hump to her heart's content if it's not going to damage her stitches? Wear really old clo...

Re: Problems unraveling
What can be done about the nipping, humping, jumping and pulling on clothes? She's done with the box and is now driving me insane :x When I don't pay attention to her she barks non-stop and LOUD. I have taken her outside 5 times, but she won't stop being all over me and tearing apart her leashes. If...

Re: Problems unraveling
How frustrating for you  Remember she's your dog and you get to say how she is handled. Not your parents, your siblings, or any trainers. How much longer is she supposed to rest for? Remember, this won't be for ever and then you can get stuck in to tiring her out and working on her issues. Ca...

How frustrating for you  Remember she's your dog and you get to say how she is handled. Not your parents, your siblings, or any trainers. I try to avoid certain situations, but I can't watch Sophie all the time. When I'm busy and I ask a family member to watch her, they don't follow the rules...

Problems unraveling
Sophie was recently spayed and has to rest, but that isn't happening. She has so much energy. Her attention span is a peanut at the moment because she's bored out of her mind. She hates Kong’s and most other toys, but I think she's teething still and she plays with her squeaky toy. There is only so ...

Re: Crate Train or Not to Crate Train
Wilkie, I'm not sure what you mean by training a dog to use the car harness. it's tethered to the car, at a length where the dog can't get into any trouble and won't fly too far in an accident before being restrained. Not sure what you mean by an emergency when the dog's in its crate, either. The d...

Re: Harness
I can't think of the names at the moment, but I found two harnesses. One has I guess you'd call it meshing, kind of like what athletic clothing is made up of. The other has a silky material for the straps. Both harnesses just arrived at the store. I'd like to think a little bird told them about my q...

Re: Harness
No I don't leave the harness on at all times ever. They only wear it if we are going out (or on occasion when guests are over and I need to be able to move Bella without grabbing her collar). Mine are kept attach to the leash and its part of going out the door to my dogs, they come over and wait to...

Re: Crate Train or Not to Crate Train
One concern I have is, what happens in case of an emergency? Do you let someone that you trust know that you're going to run errands or you're at work and need them to check up on the dogs and let them out for a bit? As for the seatbelt, how on earth do you train them to use one? Not that I will be ...

Re: Crate Train or Not to Crate Train
I would always attempt to crate train any dog, its SO useful having a dog who can be securely shut in a crate IF necessary. You might need to do some rearranging but if you get a decent sturdy crate you can put a bit of ply or hardboard on top, cover it with a blanket or something and hey presto, h...
