Re: Escape!... Into the House?

New freakish behavior. People down the street have been shooting off guns for hours so I've been outside and inside running all around for hours to keep him entertained, as relaxed as possible, and not trying to get into the house (he is terrified of fireworks). His newest method of getting in the h...

Re: Study in Drawing Fur

Hey, you are busy - it's all good! If you are pushed, just pick a section out from each dog that is particularly interesting - there is nothing like getting stuck in a HUGE boring expanse of fur that alllllll looks the same, to put you off it for ages! I've discovered that I am enjoying drawing fur...

Re: Study in Drawing Fur

How much can somebody do in two weeks? :? Well, as it turns out, they can have their grandma go to the hospital, help in building a fence, spend several days in town, spend half of four days in a hospital learning, spend a day with their dad on a custody day, and spend hours comforting a dog terrifi...

Re: Escape!... Into the House?

We're having an electric fence built around the property right now so we will be able to keep in cows and goats in that area and we're having new gates installed. For the moment he might be at risk if they were to come right up to the front porch but in less than a month they're going to have to dea...

Re: Escape!... Into the House?

I was thinking he's smelling something in the air that's spooking him. I used to live in the country where we had a few black bears wandering around the woods. Only once in the ten years we lived there did a bear come near our property, but when it did, my two dogs went nuts when they went outside ...

Re: Escape!... Into the House?

Jeez, just tried to get into the house after going to Health Adventures! at the hospital my mom works (4:00p.m.-9:00p.m.) and Buddy was squirming and pulling to get into the house. Grandma said he almost knocked her down trying to get in today and she hasn't heard anything that would make him behave...

Re: Escape!... Into the House?

If we could answer that, none of us would be working for a living  we'd do the lottery once and then retire. Up to you to chat it over with us and the family until you can figure out what had gone on. Check with the neighbours if they heard/saw anything. Is it possible someone tried to break i...

Escape!... Into the House?

Um, so apparently last night Buddy was scared senseless about something and tried to get into the house. My mom went to work this morning and discovered on her way out the door that he had torn apart the screen on the screen door, bent part of the metal frame, broke other parts of the metal frame, s...

Random Thoughts About Random Stuff

We've all had those moments where some random thought pops into our head. It may unrealistic, interesting, inspiring, or excites us so much that we rush to tell a family member about it but when we try to explain it to them they just smile and nod and ponder your sanity while you understood what you...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Uk labrador standard is around 22" and I would hazard a guess that most in the show rings are nearer 20 than 22, really, pretty short dogs! Our working labs are much taller and actually your boy reminds me of a bigger version of my friends working lab, Bonnie who is a BIG girl, but lean and fi...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Wow he IS a big boy - hes only a few inches shorter than my Deerhound b itch, and hes a good 5/6inches over the top height for Labradors going via the UK breed standard. He looks good in the pics! 5/6 inches? When I looked it up I thought he was about 3 inches above :? I must have been looking at t...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

He looks good! Are you honestly telling me he's 90lb? How tall is he? Yep, he's actually 96 lb. And I just measured his height at the shoulder to the ground and from the top of his head to the ground (I wasn't sure what you wanted exactly!) At his shoulder he is about 27" At the top of his hea...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Buddy sure looks healthy to me! Such a happy, friendly-looking dog! :) Sure a Lab can be 90+ lb and be healthy. :P Mastiffs are more like 150-200 lb. Maybe Nettle thought you said 90 kG. Now that's a big dog! 90 KG??!!  That would be 198 pounds! At that point I'd be think...

Another great resource: Canine Body Language A Photographic Guide By Brenda Aloff Check it out to see if it's what you need, it can be kind of expensive. However it's been very helpful to visual learners like me! :) I can see it's been a while since you've posted this, but I just wanted to ask a fe...
