Split Toe...

Yesterday-ish we noticed Buddy (my boy <3) was limping, so I got him down on the ground in a "rub my tummy" position and checked his foot and he's got a split toe. Ouch. My mom thinks he got it from the concrete on our porch. I put some bagbalm on his toe but he probably licked most ...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

New news and progress reports! We did go to the library and I was only able to find two books written by suggested authors (but I did put seven others on hold  ) as well as one out of five books on corgies for my mom. I have: "Why Does My Dog Act That Way?" by Stanley Coren and "...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

We're going to the library after my mom watches the news  . In the mean time, I have a little question. When I go out and sit in the front porch lawn chair, Buddy will come over, give a few friendly licks, and then at some point he'll start rubbing against my legs. I think it might just be bec...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Well my grandma's health has improved greatly :) . Before she was retaining fluid, could hardly walk, was confused, shaky, was in intense pain, and couldn't finish complete sentences. Now, she has lost 24 POUNDS of fluid, is puttering around without a walker, is thinking straight again, less shaky, ...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Woah, Mattie, your loose lead training thread really worked  I think I had him almost loose lead walking before, but I didn't say close, but now that I'm saying close holy cow he's awesome! :D Before he'd kinda walk loose lead and watch me but he seemed a little drifty like he couldn't quite ...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Some people use close to mean 'walk close to me keeping the leash loose', and heel to mean 'walk with your shoulder touching my leg, with your head up staring at my face'.... the first is what Mattie means and this is the sort of loose leash walking I use. The latter is what people want in an obedi...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

I have got a question for Mattie in particular, though someone else could answer this too. I was reading about loosh leash training on your thread Mattie and you said: I say, close to my dogs and start to walk, if their head goes in front of my hip, I drop the lead in my left hand and turn and walk...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Boy, this certainly makes sense. Buddy was just digging in the beauty bark outside because it's so hot out and he's trying to get cool so my mom said, "No Buddy," and he did stop before plopping down. So I said, "Just make sure you don't say his name when you correct him or he'll ass...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

A spayed b itch would be much the best potential companion for Buddy if you do go down that route.. But I think encouraging Mom to organise getting the yard fenced would be the first step (even if actually you organise most of it!) - really emphasise how nice it would be to sit out back or front wi...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

these bad experiences are great examples of why you should not worry too much about "socialization". just like humans, it's not reasonable or possible for all dogs to like each other. So don't worry if Buddy doesn't have any "dogie buddies" right now. better no dog buddies then ...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Yep, just let him go ahead and hump his pillow, if it helps him feel better. :D Well, he stopped humping it after a few seconds and judging from the pillow's position he probably didn't do it again last night. Still, I do think it's a little funny after checking out those threads about people's dog...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

Well, a few thoughts just occured to me, and on account of them bugging me I think I will post them now. The first one is slightly random just so you know. The first, some people think Buddy is over fed (or did think it, I don't know since I can't fit in anyone's head). So I measured how much dog fo...

Re: Any Advice For Improvement?

In most U.S. cities, it is illegal to shoot a bb gun inside city limits. So I would do as Emmabeth suggests, and use a big water gun. Slingshots are also illegal inside city limits, most places. Definitely talk to Chris when he gets back, and definitely kennel Buddy whenever you are not home, or ha...
