Re: Ted
I can't imagine how I'd adapt to having such a small dog... I'd be terrified of standing on him, or losing him  But I'm sure he's still 100% dog - and I love his dove! We have a no shoes in the house rule, he's pretty good at keeping from under our feet but if he does run into us at least it's...

Re: Getting a second dog
Most dogs would rather be only dogs, as long as they get plenty of attention and exercise, and things to do. They may well enjoy meeting certain dogs out on walks, and romp with them or else walk happily with them (depending on age and temperament). But they like to have their resources safely thei...

Re: Ted
Oh thanks both, he's a looker that's for sure, but then I am biased  Suzette I think I am desensitised to him a bit so I can resist! Plus training takes up loads of time so I am grateful when he is amusing himself or asleep (as he is now, on his back, legs in the air, next to me :D ). Also I'v...

Re: Getting a second dog
When any of us get a second (third, fourth etc) dog, we have to be honest why. We get it for ourselves. We might kid that it will be 'a little friend' for our existing dog, but this is highly unlikely. Most dogs will come to tolerate each other and in time might well like each other, but there will...

Re: I love it when my dog(s)...
Sometimes Ted suddenly wakes from a deep sleep and sits bolt upright for no apparent reason (I assume he's having a nightmare), the look of confusion on his face as he tries to work out what is happening is priceless but what I love is that he'll look at me, visibly relax and then just flop back dow...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat
Might be useful for general info - when a dog scents where an on-heat or about-to-come-on-heat b itch has peed, he 'chitters' - he shivers his lower jaw very quickly, sometimes drooling, sometimes huffing, which sends the pheromone scent over scent-receptors in his mouth. Thanks Nettle, useful info...

Re: "You should put her on a choke chain."
One day I was there playing hide and seek with Pan, and I heard her mutter to herself about stupid people who talk to their dogs and how annoying it is when they play silly games with them. She'd have very much enjoyed watching Ted playing "Chase me until I fall over" on the Heath this af...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat
Thanks Nettle, what you suggest is what I would have thought (although not with the experience of knowing when a dog can scent a b tch etc). We had a b tch when I was a teenager and we used to walk her in more remote areas when she was in season and never had a problem. One of the many great things ...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat
Nettle, I have a question for you. I don't have a b tch, (although I might get one in the future) but I was at my first dog training class last week and the trainer went into a bit of a rant about b tches in season. It started off as if they're in season don't bring to the class (which made sense) b...

Re: Odin and Pippen. - Rhod. Ridgeback & Border T.
Oh your boys are so lovely, I love border terriers (was on my list of possible dogs to get) and my cousin has a Ridgeback, he's a loveable fool (both my cousin and his dog come to think of it  I especially love that last photo, he seems to be saying "Shall I pop some more wood on this fir...

Crossing everything for you both for the best outcome.
No need to come and clean at my place, well not the floors anyway, Ted maintains a very thorough cleaning regime eating anything that might vaguely pass as edible
