The county;s annual Pooch Pool Party

Back in 2006 someone somewhere in Montgomery County's (MD) Recreation Department came up with a brilliant idea. When the summer is over, and we close the outdoor pools, why not open up one pool for the dogs? The pools will be drained and cleaned anyway, so lets give the county dogs a chance to have ...

For those who like to garden

While you're doing your thing, your dogs can be romping around and having fun. Just about every weekend during September and October, I would be outside. Those two months are great times for fall planting in the Mid-Atlantic area. Naturally Flanders and Bruce were outside with me. I simply made sure...

Figures. :? I find a typo AFTER I hit the submit button.
My question is: why didn't Victoria suggest feeding the pugs pineapples to discourage them from eating their poop?

Question about the pooping pugs

I remember a British couple having the same problem--I think the dog was Tio--and Vic suggested feeding the dog chunks of pineapple. She explained that pineapple make the poop distasteful to the dog and he's quit eating it. Why she suggest that to the pug owners? BTW Vic, it was amazing the way you ...

How my two jokers get exercised at times

I like to garden, and around here (MD) the best times are not only the spring months, but also September and October. First I fill up the dogs' water bucket, put it in a shady place and then go about my gardening. While I work, Bruce and Flanders are running and rassling, and barking at passers by a...

Welcome! I'd love to see some pictures of your newfoundlands, I absolutely adore them! Unfortunately I have enough dogs (or should I say hair shedding) in my house for me to cope with as it is without a Newfie to add it! Maybe one day... Brush them outside--it'll not only save wear and tear on your...

:( I see you Brits have the same problems with puppy mills that we Yanks do. Recently there was a major puppy mill bust in Central Virginia--made the news big time, and there were discussions on the special needs of dogs rescued from those hell-holes. Perhaps the best approach on both sides of Atlan...

I remember my aunt and uncle had a poodle who gradually lost her sight. They traveled a lot and she went with them; it never took her long to get her bearings. Incredible!

I remember seeing Flanders' gums bleed a bit as her adult teeth came in. I figured she was teething, but asked the vet just to be sure. He was surprised that I noticed it--most people don't. IIRC, I picked up one her baby molars off the floor.

I would say yes because the older dog can teach the puppy a lot about how to behave. When I got Flanders, my second Dobe was still around and I left it up to him to teach (3 month old) Flanders how to behave herself. Jasper would snap/show teeth at her, but he never seriously hurt her. I also made i...

I interrupt this thread to tell the story of a time when Flanders was a pup. She ran up to a flock of birds minding their own business in one of my Japanese Maple trees, and they turned on her! Chased her across the yard! I don't know what kind of birds they were, and it hasn't broken Flande...
