That's great news. I really, really hope it works out. However, labradoodles are often no better for asthma sufferers than any other dog and Gold is only a quarter poodle anyway. http://www.labradoodle-rescue.com/allergyinfo.html Fingers and everything else crossed that the children aren't allergic ...

I consider myself a responsible breeder. I would have had that pup put down at birth. Old-fashioned I know, and possibly shocking to some of you, but I've been involved with dogs for long enough to know that there are often hidden deformities to go with the obvious ones But then again, this pup loo...

My husband feels we need to get Gold out of the house by Friday... I talked him into giving us until Sat to rehome before she goes to a shelter. Am I doing the right thing or should I be calling shelters now? Why the rush? Mistakes are made in a hurry. Can't you just consider yourselves as fosterin...

I don't want the OP to think we don't sympathise with her dilemma. Anyone who says they've never made a mistake is lying (or deluded). None of us started out knowing what we know now about the underhand ways of some irresponsible breeders and the problems that can arise between dogs. We've had to le...

How likely do you guys think a 10 week old mix pup with a deformed nose will get adopted from a shelter? I missed the bit about the deformity. Why not keep that one? I may be guilty of a naive assumption myself. You said the pups are lab/poodle mixes. Are you sure? Alarm bells are ringing since you...

I'd have to take one to the shelter and I am not going to do that. Shelters and rescues vary so much. Hopefully someone on here from the US can give you some advice. I imagine the likelihood of a labradoodle pup spending much time in kennels would be pretty small. Over here good rescues would norma...

It must be hard for the OP as a presumably fairly inexperienced dog owner to look at her 2 cute pups (no doubt playing happily and obviously loving each other) and believe a word of what we are saying. Surely all it will take is a lot of love and hard work to avoid the horrors we describe? Possibly ...

They are both girls... any tips for setting them up for a life time of harmony? Yes, but it won't be what you want to hear. Take one of them back now as Emmabeth said. You've only had them less than a week. (Would that be a problem though? I can't believe a responsible breeder would have sold you l...

Good posts. If the NILIF approach is used simply to instil a few basic manners, that's fine. If it is used to control every aspect of the dog's life and to make it defer to its owner in everything - that is far from fine. Mutual respect as Fundog describes works best with both animals and humans IME...

Too many dogs. There is something very nasty in the modern male labrador and to a lesser extent in the female. In UK, work and show labs are almost two different breeds and the show labs are the ones causing the problems. Working black lab bitches aren't immune from aggressive temperaments either -...

Isn't that precisely the reason why we shouldn't wallop our dogs - because they don't understand?Mattie wrote: I never minded someone who caught any of my sons giving them a smack on the butt when they were little, you can't reason with toddlers, they don't understand what you are telling them.
