Re: New Dog, need help!!
Couple things I'd like to know-how old is the dog? What do you feed for food and treats? First thing, please stop with the squirt bottle. Giving her a negative consequence to her barking is only going to make her more anxious. There are better ways to teach her to stop barking, but first you need to...

Re: Exercise the Mind...
Another game that is great for dogs is keep away. Grab some item that your dog has a special relationship (a ball or toy) and start running away from her. Keep your back to her the whole time. She will chase you trying to get the object. There's one way to build guarding behavior. Why not a rousing...

Re: feelling like I have made a terrible choice for my family..
First thing I would do is have a family meeting. Everyone needs a chance to have a say on the subject. The only way to get this dog to a place where everyone can enjoy her is through hard work from ALL family members, that includes the kids. If everyone's on board, then next what you need to do is m...

Setting dog up for success-a cautionary tale
Not so much seeking advice, but offering it for all those out there who are frustrated that your dog just won't do "it" your way. I had a bit of an I-told-you-so moment with my boyfriend tonight (although a bit hard to rub it in when he's bleeding that much  ). Since the day I brough...

...runned towards her agressively. but he didn t do anything else. Can you describe why you believe his running towards her was aggressive? Were his hackles raised? Was he growling? What position was his tail in? Did he run all the way to your mom or turn back half way? Also, is this the only thing...

Re: puppy crying
Also, how old is your puppy? How often do you take her out to potty and do you take her out just before you crate her? How often in a day do you have training sessions? How often in a day do you play with her? How often do you feed her? Where is the crate in relation to where you are? Do you have he...

Re: puppy elimination change questions
I also have a 5 month old puppy. As she's getting older, it's taking her longer to poop after meals. In fact, it's getting to the point where I can time it from her last elimination. Basically, she needs to go outside every 4-5 hours, and if she's had a meal in that time, she'll need to poop. If she...

Re: coughing
Go ahead and take him to the vet. It's very possible that even with the vaccination he may have kennel cough. Or something else. It's worth having a vet look into it.

Re: cocoa gone wild
How old is the dog? How long have you had him? What breed? What's his daily schedule? What are you feeding? Why are you putting him in the garage at night? I can already tell you that electric fences are not good for dogs and could possibly be causing some issues as it has a very negative effect on ...

My thinking is that he's coming into his 2nd fear stage. Has he always been shy? That may just be part of his personality.

Re: CORGIS!
Zelda met her first corgis since we brought her home! Maybe it's my imagination, but she seemed to be much more curious and comfortable with meeting these corgis than she has any other breed. It was really fun to see. :D Although these corgis were F to the A to the T. Definitely a lesson on not over...

Re: Pregnant?
When I contacted the breeder we used they weren't sure if a mating took, but if their ***** was pregnant then we could get a puppy. Lucky us, she was pregnant. However, we would have been totally fine if the opposite had been true. It's nature. As long as you're not making any promises, people shoul...

Sudden decrease in puppy eliminating.
I'm pretty sure I'm approaching being known as the poop lady with all the poop questions I have. So it seems this week that Zelda has had a drop off in the number of times and amount she poops. Last week, we could time her to every 3 hours, then suddenly, we're lucky if she goes every 5 hours....

Re: Working on Down
How is your body positioned? Are you standing and bending over? Are you sitting on the ground with her when doing down? In my experience, the lower you start with a dog, the more likely they'll do the down. Was they have a 100% down while you're sitting, move to kneeling. Then to squatting, then to ...
