Re: My dog doesn't seem to respect me

Lillukas - you can tell me to mind my own business but can I ask, do you suffer a little from sadness - a sort of depression? I only ask because of your posts. I wonder if this affects the relationship with your dog.

Re: Cant really bring my mates around , due to the dog.

Try not to grab his collar because that will make his reactivity worse. He doesn't sound like the type of dog who will settle well alone in a different room so everything you do with him needs to be managed very carefully so he is not put in a situation where he feels his only option is to bite. Can...

Re: Guilty Dog.

Is Odin a rescue? I ask only because he must have received *some* feedback somewhere along the line from a human that a certain look means him responding with an appeasement gesture. Wrong from right - well I don't think they know such things. Opportunistic of course!

Re: Temperament tests

It's followed up with the modification protocols. I am just going through the touch sensitive one now. It's looks very good. http://www.aspcapro.org/behavior-modification.php The resource guarding is more like NILIF protocol - sit before everthing the dog wants. Not sure if trainers here would advis...

Temperament tests

Hi there What do people think about these tests? http://www.aspcapro.org/safer-assessment-items.php - see videos in particular I would long to have dogs who are happy go lucky in Test 1, Test 2, Test 3 and Test 4. I feel terribly sorry for the dogs who are not comfortable as I am sure we can all rec...

Re: Problems interacting with other dogs

Yes he sounds a bit conflicted and confused. He is standing still for the other dog to sniff but he is not relaxed enough to do the same thing and then finds it funny (in his head) to make a sudden movement which then startles the other dogs. I can imagine how it plays out as I have seen it :) Do yo...

Thank you both for the run down and comments.

Jacksdad - it is worth my buying the broadcast for the seminar you watched? Is there anything vital in dog-dog and dog--person aggression we don't already know about?

Emmabeth - is it worth explaining about dominance... This post reminded me of when I came here with this notion of dominance. It didn't take me long to be put right and from there, I did a lot of research. I think it would help the OPs frame of mind if she understood the cause of the problems are no...

Re: Gland problems and food questions.

Reputable rawhide chews are ok I think. They are all rinsed with a light peroxide wash - it's safe apparently but do you research and read up. The pressed chews are the ones which can actually cause teeth problems - as they are so hard. I am not sure about blockages. Any raw hide I have given (I som...

Re: nervous dog

You can give natural supplements which are supposed to relax a dog but wouldn't you prefer to work on the route of his fears? I know you posted a while back about not being able to to groom him. How have you got on since then? Consider - does he actually need to be groomed? Can you groom him rather ...

Re: Can't keep him in the yard

Collies are generally sensitive and highly intelligent dogs who crave human contact. Whose dog is this - your dog or your grandmothers? Is there any one else there who can work on his separation anxiety whilst you are at school?

Re: Can't keep him in the yard

Can you detail here a daily routine you have with him - training time, walks, food, what he eats etc. He is probably suffering from separation anxiety and the choker is frankly cruel.. Why can't you have him in the house with you?

I think I looked at a Tuffie bed once. The nest one - they are quite hard aren't they?
