Re: multi dog holiday cottage situation - help please?

Hiya We're into walking and it's in Wales so we're going to use the opportunity to walk some mountains etc. Where we go, our dog goes really. So I think it going to be a case of managing it when we're there. It really does depend on the dog or dogs were with. Calm and well behaved dogs there is real...

multi dog holiday cottage situation - help please?

Hello We are going away soon with some other people who have dogs. We've had situations before with both dogs. My dog is generally very tolerant of dogs who barge about and seek human attention - it's quite rude actually and even I can see that! - he turns away to avoid any conflict. Sometimes, he's...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

ok I will make an appointment to see the senior vet at our practice. I'll then update the post with any progress. I'm not doing any of those rules anymore - as you say, I have read bad things about those programmes. I'm going to accept then that dominance aggression does not exist - well not towards...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

I check for ticks either at his level- ok or bending over him on his bed - not ok sometimes.. Yes you're right he's not a touchy feeling dog most of the time. When he was younger he had an amazing 'watch me' command - but as he's got older, he doesn't seem to like it so much. I've been reading up on...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

Hello Jacksdad,

Well yes I wonder about that but... I can brush him no problem, I can often do T-touch on his shoulders which he sometimes likes... depending on his mood, he comes to me for a scritch and I can towel him down (whilst standing over him) right all over the body after a walk.

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

I've read on another post here which I found very interesting and I have omitted to add this - perhaps it has relevance. Twice, when my dog has gone for me on our bed - either when I was scritching him (maybe too roughly?) or I touched his tail, my husband forcefully removed him from the bed with th...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

Thank you for the info so far, JacksDad and Nettle. The links on aggression seems related to dog on dog aggression which isn't really an issue for my collie when we're out and about - thankfully. I had read that exact post when I arrived here. He does the collie eye when we're out in open spaces and...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

I keep thinking of bits of info to give - atfer I have read other posts. He is clicker trained - loves it. I always follow positive renforcment / motivation training. In between good trainers when I had that period of 'bad' training (or training which wasn't right for my dog), I was frustrated with ...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

me again... I wanted to add - to give the right picture, that he is not aggressive with the vets. He looks tense and uncomfortable but is good natured when being prodded and looked at etc. I can brush him no prob. I tend to avoid looking into his eyes now though. I can add food to his bowl when he i...

Re: owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

Can I just add he is a well balanced dog apart from this. A lot of my friends have dogs who are nuts! If my dog is being stroked by another owner and the owner's dog comes bundling in, my dog will always leave. He dislikes stuff like that. He never jumps up, got a great recall, very easy to train, i...

owner aggression and aggression towards dog vistors in the h

Hello I came across this site through a friend. I have two problems I would like to share about my dog. Here are the usual facts I think you ask for. I am a little confused on how to react to person aggression. Do you do time out or do you ignore and change the focus or do you accept you were doing ...
