Re: Could you do it?

I personally don't put boundaries or parameters on love. If a dog is meant for me, it doesn't matter if it has a short or long lifespan or if it is young or old to begin with. I will love it for as long as I am given and be happy for the time spent together. Plus, even a long-lived breed can die you...

Re: HELP! My dog barks at EVERYONE!

The original post is older, but Jacksdad's response is going to be very helpful to folks who come across it who have the same issue. :)

Re: What will your next dog be?

Another pembroke corgi would be my breed of choice if I was going to go that route again. I just adore corgi's for their intelligence, their loyalty, and their sass! But... I have put a lot of thought into this over the last year or so and I know that some day far off in the future, once my sweet Pi...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

When my dog gets a hot spot (she's a pembroke corgi), I use the blow up donut collar to keep her from being able to lick it. I personally cannot stand the cones and won't use them on my dog (personal preference, not a judgement on those who do choose to use them). The donut collar works great and do...

Re: I think iv found the one!!

I think beagles are great dogs, but they do have a natural hound scent that you will never wash away, even if you try. For some, this is a deal breaker. The one's I have known are fairly vocal with more of a bay than a bark. Again, not a big deal if you are okay with that. Walking them can be a test...

Re: New rescue dog bit husband's face

Just for reference, we had a rescue sheltie that was one of the sweetest dogs ever. But... he never, in all the years we had him, liked being hugged around the neck or have his face encroached upon. He would snuggle up to us, we could pet him all over, he was a loving, happy-go-lucky dog in every ot...

Re: Golden Retriever and cancer

Honestly, every single breed has its pros and cons (health-wise and other wise). If a golden is what you want, just go for it and enjoy every minute you have with him/her whether that is five years or fifteen years. :) Let go of what could happen or go wrong, you have no control over that anyway, no...

Re: I'm done

I can hear and feel your frustration Shalista! I really sympathize with you. You have tried so hard with your little guy. My daughter has a slightly similar situation to yours with her rescue dog. After working with him lovingly and patiently for over three years (and not getting very far) she final...

Re: Advice needed one last time?

There are no absolutes, even with purebred dogs. But in general, goldens are still a good choice for your family situation. I have had a golden and my daughter has one right now. As puppies, they are as energetic and bouncy as any puppy. But as adults, if you get one from a great breeder, they tend ...

My first two thoughts were belgian Malinois and springer spaniel. Border collies have a great 'work ethic' and could probably get the job done pretty well too.
