Re: Abby, Neo, and Dude
Great pictures!
When Ari was 3-4 months, he could also get away with murder on the street - so cute, everyone loved him.
But not anymore. Now it's actually the other way around, people are suspicious because of his size..

Re: Harness suggestions
There is "easy walk", which doesn't require squeezing the dog's head through a hole (there are two straps, and the leash attaches in the front, rather then on the back). Our ridgeback used to wear one all the time when outside of the house.. He didn't mind wearing one. We recently switched...

Re: Explaing Positive Reinforcement rethinking key "sound bites"
Loved Nettle's way.... "What DO you want him to do?" Once this is determined - there is a goal, and the way to achieve it is through reinforcement / rewarding desired behavior. Want him to pee outside? Make it fun for him! Reward when he does it! Want him to walk by your side? Make it fun ...

Re: Let sleeping dog lie??? Or not?
Oh, I envy all your dancing dog alarms !! When my boy hears me getting up, making noise, leash, harness, cookie jar - he just curls up in his bed, trying to become invisible, and pretends that he is in deep sleep. And if I come over and stand over him, he looks up at me with those wise ridgeback eye...

Let sleeping dog lie??? Or not?
I love early morning walks.. Right at the sunrise is the best, with colors of the sky changing in front of your eyes.. Plus, on the practical side, to go early is the only way I can take my boy Ari out for an hour or so before leaving for work. The problem is that he is not a morning dog, and prefer...

Re: Dog park etiquette question
Having been educated by all the responses (all essentially agreeing on the main point - stay close, correct your dog yourself the moment he is about to cross the line), I changed my attitude a little and am now indeed staying very close to Ari on the playground, ready to interfere. But here is a cha...

Re: Dog park etiquette question
Yes, this is indeed very convincing. Now, how about the reverse case? When your nice, propery socialized and polite puppy (or dog) is being hassled by another one who lacks manners. To step in and quickly remove your puppy, or to allow him to learn how to say "no"? I may be wrong here.. Bu...

Re: Getting a second dog
So, emmabeth, then while having two terriers, especially two Pattersdales, is a bad idea.. having two Ridgebacks (sighthounds, working hounds bred to work as a team when hunting lions, 1 male + 1 female, 2 years or so apart in age) may be a slightly better idea, not necessarily a recipe for disaster...

Re: Dog park etiquette question
A great suggestion by Nettle to research dog body language... I am sure there is plenty of information out there, perhaps even on this forum.
