Re: two dogs or one?

Don't know if this is a little late, but I'll share anyway. At first we had only one dog (Striker). We saw that he was really lonely & unhappy during the day (both my husband and I work from 8 - 5), so we decided to get him a friend (Bibi). He would cry when we left for work, the neighbours said...

Re: Exercise & rainy days

LOL, okay okay I'll put on my big-girl-panties & go out in the rain... :D

Seriously, the rain isn't that bad, but I'm a little afraid of the thunder though

Exercise & rainy days

It's been raining for a week now & according to the wheather forecast it's going to rain next week as well. (We actually have a hot, dry climate, so I don't know what's up with all this rain - not that I'm complaining, we need it). So we weren't able to go on walks, play 'fetch' or 'chase' or an...

Re: Raw Food Diet

Thanx for all the help so far :) Okay, so my husband and I went to our butcher to see what we can find. (By they way, they nearly passed out when I told them about the raw food diet, and that the stuff I'm buying are for doggies - I could see they though I was crazy.) Again, I don't know if food is ...

Good news, a vet in another town about 60km from here ordered KONGS (on my request). He will have them in about 2 weeks from now. ***yay***

Raw Food Diet

Okay, so I decided I want to switch my doggies to a raw food diet. (Please keep in mind that I stay in South Africa, and I haven't come across any suppliers yet, so I'll have to put it together myself). I've done some research, and the more research I do, the more confused I get (the sites are so co...

Re: Free Feeding

I'm definitely changin to the raw food diet - the more research I do, the more I'm convinced. Thank you so much for all the replies so far!! You really helped me alot. I'll see if I can find the book(s) in bookstores here, or else I will order online. Oh, and I'm surely going to ask more questions -...

Re: Free Feeding

Thanx Emmabeth. I must say, I also have never had any problems with bones, but I also keep an eye on them while they're having it. I just heard that you shouldn't give them chicken bones, but now that you've explained it, I understand. I started to do some reading on raw food, it seems complicated, ...

Re: Free Feeding

Thanx for all the advice - I see I still have a lot of learning to do!! Maximoo - I will definitely try cheese / cheese spray. And I do have a standard measuring cup; I will try the quantities you suggested. I just want to know - is there a way I will know if he's still hungry after I fed him? He ha...

Re: Free Feeding

I feed him at about 7am and then again 6pm. I must say, he's surely not underweight (maybe a little overweight, but I'm sure with the new feedling schedule he'll loose a little wight). He is very active & plays alot. We also go on walks every afternoon, so I think he's fine, and that maybe the p...

Re: Free Feeding

His mother is a standard Dachshund, and his father is a standard / mini mix. He is a little smaller than a standard, but not that much.

Oh, it make sence what you said about the recommended portions. Just another think I wanted to ask? Won't it be difficult for them to digest cheese?

Re: Free Feeding

This is what I give Striker (the adult) The Dry Food I give them is Vet's choice; apperently it's the best quality dry food available here. (I live in a small town in South Africa, so I don't always have all the options to choose from). I'm can't remember the exact weight of a meal, as I use a scoop...

Re: Free Feeding

With Bibi - my baby - I didn't have any problems. She ate everytime I fed her, although she didn't empty her bowl. And I have someone who will feed her in lunch time during the week. Okay, so I started to give Striker (the adult) two meals a day this weekend - He didn't have breakfast on Saturday, (...
