Is there any truth to it?
... shock of dog ownership.in other words as much as I love Sampson his breed the giant schnauzer and other guarding breeds like dobermans, mastiffs, GSD in my opinion are not suited to people who have only read books and nothing else no matter how committed they are as the books don't tell you everything. ...

Your welcome Nettle and I hope they come in handy for your friend AriRR the dog who I knew had it was a GSD.

Re: New rescue dog bit husband's face
... good things happen (SUPPER YUMMY FOOD) changes your dogs association towards your husband approaching. I used this with a client's Border Collie/GSD mix who was guarding "his" toy (that he stole out of my car...darn thief) and with in 5 minutes I had achieved a new response from him. ...

... and space they need to become comfortable. The latest example in my life of this approach saving me from a bit is a dog I am working with, larger GSD mix. move your hands towards his face, he curls his lips, shows teeth and occasionally advances on you. he has bitten and will if pushed. listening ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
How lovely, and what a lucky GSD. Reminds me of that whippet who couldn't walk anymore and his owners carried him out on his walks. The things we do for our dogs. This morning was miserable, torrential rain, freezing. I looked at Merlin ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
... me when I saw what seemed to be someone sitting on the ground under a tree reading a book. But it was, and next to her was a large fluffy ageing GSD. She smiled at me and when I commented that is wasn't the best weather for reading a book under a tree, she gestured to her dog and said that she ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
... I was right no Giant schnauzer  . I just have this feeling that the jack Russell will be number 1. Kera said it would be nice if it was the GSD and if it's a way for the KC to see how much the public loves the GSD but wants it to improve but she knows thats just wishful thinking.

... they will find less and less need to bark. Eurasiers are a new breed, I don't think they are massively rare in the UK. Eurasiers are Samoyed x GSD x Keeshund x Chow Chow as far as I know. Bred to be biddable, happy, friendly yet reserved around strangers, and have low prey drive. Basically ...

Are Eurasier rare as we can't find how rare they are, we read there a cross between the chow and the GSD

... evening and is calm in nature ( I'm taking about an adult as I know puppy's are crazy for the first year or so) , pretty healthy compared with the GSD for example, does not drool to the extent of a newf, is great with other dogs, is indifferent to strangers but not a dog who love everyone as that's ...

Re: What she loves about them
Rottweiler! I knew there was another one.
Hugely smart dogs, very easy to train, very loyal, large. They do look a bit scary though, and would need the same socialisation guidance as a GSD.

Thank you so much , they were things she like in a GSD so I can tell you in more detail what she wants for example she likes the willing to please in GSD but it would not be needed in other breeds. I do a longer list. But list aimed at other breeds. ...

... breeds will meet much of the criteria. Finnish Lapphunds are friendly, but not Lab friendly. Very easy to train, takes as much exercise as a GSD, and are extreamly healthy as a breed. Eurasier dogs are new on the scene, but are very family orientated and neutral to strangers (from the Chow ...

Re: Is it possible in the UK?
That's a shame, they look lovely.
What about the GSD is she attracted to? I bet there are other large breeds with similar characteristics who are healthier / a little less hard to bring up.
