Re: Giant breeds?
I think large dogs are easier than small to be honest as your more likely going to not treat a big dog like a toy like so many small dogs get treated. Large breeds aren't as bad as some of you are making out. There is NO such thing as a first dog just first owner and life is to short you should get...

I'm going to contact my local dog warden and see what there doing about the dog. Well I saw the said bullmastiff yesterday thankfully I had already walked buddy and I was lookin...

Re: Giant breeds?
A Golden Retriever sounds like an ideal first dog for her. A lot of grooming commitment, but fantastic all round first dogs, and still a large dog, without being a giant. They are listed as most popular first dogs for good reason

I would also take legal action if I were in your shoes. I believe you're morally and legally within your rights to recover your expenses from the owner and/or the trainer. See if any other participants in the class are prepared to be witnesses for you. Keep all documents from the vet as well. I'm so...

Re: Dog on dog attacks?
Theo, you drive, don't you? Maybe drive Buddy to a nice walking spot a bit further away in the meantime, until you know more. You'll probably feel better knowing you're in a different neighbourhood, and Buddy will get to see some different places :D It doesn't hurt to get the phone number of your lo...

Re: Dog on dog attacks?
This actually happened to my parents older dog, Jack. He was on lead on the pavement, and a staffy rushing out of a house and locked onto his neck/shoulder area very, very suddenly. Tore his shoulder muscle and it took four people to remove the attacking staffy. It was a trauma for all involved. Luc...

Re: Giant breeds?
So in that case most first time owners would be better with a small or medium dog. I disagree think of the shock from owning a small 10kg dog to going to a 60kg dog. Honestly I think that even as a second dog she could still have trouple if she's then not use to such a big dog. It isn't just about ...

Re: English Springer spaniel? Help advice needed
I have some experience here :D I have one of each. This is Jack, a show line Springer/Cocker cross. Although looks more like pure Springer and favours the Springer side. He's more medium energy. Happily enjoy long walks and hikes, games and playing, but also once walked and loved on, will hap...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Poor Pixie! Moving plans meant I made an unexpected drop by to folks house yesterday, but I couldn't stop for very long. Pixie was so, so excited and happy to see me, I felt so terrible saying goodbye and leaving her there again when I know she doesn't understand. A friend was helping me collect a s...

Re: Akita help! *update* still need help!
I'm also wondering if he's a little bored, and he's clearly finding this behaviour super rewarding right now. I know you have to be very careful not to over-exercise him at this age, but I personally think several short walks is better than one longer one. Even a five-ten minute walk in the morning,...

Re: Moving house... part time dog?
what lovely friends you have. :D In case you haven't thought of this already - you need one box with all the makings of tea/coffee, mugs, k**chen wipes, loo roll, spare lightbulb, soap, flannel, and a packet of biscuits. Remember you don't have to unpack all on the same day! Get the bed ready so yo...

Re: Moving house... part time dog?
General moving update - logistics on a very tight budget are proving tricky, but luckily I have awesome friends with cars who plan to help me. I do need to get a van for a large antique sideboard and the mattress though, and to pick up a sofa and armchair that someone (a perfect stranger!) has offer...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Psst.... use baking soda next time. I adore baking soda. I use to to clean almost everything and anything, along with lemon juice, white vinegar, salt, etc. Haven't yet used it on the dog, but will remember that for the next time she needs a bath! Should bring up her white patches beautifull...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I'm going to take my dog to a vet because he is scratching his ears a lot. I have bathed it with shampoo and since then it has been scratching his ears. Any suggestions guys? Almost certainly ear mites or a build up of wax, definitely the see the vet, because either way, it'll be so uncomfortable f...
