Re: I passed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might be better to ask on a car forum. We're about dogs here and I don't think there are any car dealers on here often. ;)

Re: Won't eat

That could definitely be part of the problem. I'd stick with very soft food, like pate canned food even mixed with some water so it's even more liquidy, so she doesn't have to chew at all, and get her teeth taken care of ASAP.

Re: Won't eat

Has she been to the vet since the deworming? I would be looking at a medical cause if she's underweight and not eating. Are her teeth good?

Re: Where has everyone gone?

I was taking and recently graduated from KPA :D Now I'm catching up on all the things I missed while I was busy with that! I've also started gathering quite a plentiful harvest of reactive dog clients to work with, some multiple times a week, some every other week. It's very rewarding to see their p...

Re: Is it even possible?

I am keeping an eye on a few GSD breeders myself. Their dogs are healthy, stable, and intelligent. They're hard to find (the ones I know of are on the other side of the country from me -- that being 41 straight hours of driving away) but they exist. I'm a big fan of intelligent outcrossing and certa...

Re: positively no pull harness

The measurement should go around their chest behind their front legs, like a saddle. I haven't used the Positively harness yet, but its close cousin, the Freedom, works very well with just the front clip. :)

Re: Blind dog now also deaf...please help

If you're having trouble assessing her quality of life, this document is a vet's evaluation of quality of life, looking at several factors. I think the Halo might be a good way to help her out if she can adapt to that. If she still has high-frequency hearing, I've heard of several dogs who gained a ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Today went just as well for us and much better for several of the others, though still very rough. I am so proud of Delta for his focus and willingness to keep training and working. We had 15 minutes to perform a 10 part behavior chain (a chain in which the cue for the next behavior reinforced the l...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Keeping Sky in my thoughts. Delta did fabulously today. We all practiced performing our chains, and Delta and I were the only team who went through all exercises in a way that would pass the test. I hope we do as well tomorrow! And that tomorrow everyone else feels less stressed and does better too....

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

We leave tomorrow for brother's wedding weekend, and this morning sister's staffy Jax was having labored breathing and trouble settling down. He's been diagnosed with heart failure for a while. I'm glad it was today rather than tomorrow or over the weekend while she wasn't home, but it's still not g...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Delta really seems to have been bothered by the tumor on Opal's leg. After it was removed (and she was still wobbly from anesthesia), he gave her the most cursory sniff I've seen him give her in months and then left her alone! He's been much less obsessive with the sniffing, down to normal dog level...

Re: Dog scared of bikes - slip lead?

I think the behaviorist has half of a good idea. Fearful dogs have been known to slip out of many harnesses and flat collars, so something more secure as backup is a good idea. But I agree with you in that a slip lead on its own isn't the right choice. There are a few harnesses that are more secure....

Re: Sense of smell

I read a book about cadaver detection dogs recently, called "What the Dog Knows," and it went into this a bit. From my novice understanding, because smell emanates from the object, it spreads out over an area. This page goes into it well -- scent isn't like a radar or metal detector. Air c...
