Re: I feel awful
Sh*t happens, I doubt there is anyone on here who can honestly say that they've never yelled at or around their dogs. I know I've morphed into a fishwife a few times with Spencer and did with Rupert too. It's not the end of the world, they'll most likely get over it quicker than you will. I seriousl...

I emailed her a while ago and heard nothing back either.

Re: Neutering and anxiety problems
There's actually evidence that neutering can make anxiety issues worse due to the drop in testosterone so that wouldn't be a route I'd go down personally. I'm sure people will be able to give you plenty of advice on how to help with the problems you're having but more info will be asked for  T...

Re: Neurological Problems in Young dog
I don't think a belly band should even be considered. Bad enough when the dog is perfectly capable of holding it but is marking, to use one when the dog has a medical condition that means it can't help it...well that's just downright cruel imo and I can't believe they're even suggesting it  If...

Re: Very aggressive Border Collie :(
I have the Barbara Skyes book mentioned, it's not one I'd recommend to be perfectly honest. I found it as much use as a chocolate teapot when it came to dealing with my dogs aggression issues. There are far better ones out there imo, ones that actually have practical advice about dealing with the ac...

Re: Please help me I don't know what to do anymore
Could she be over tired and over stimulated? Three 20 minute walks a day is a lot for a 14 week old puppy, general rule of thumb is 5 minutes per month of life. What does playing with her involve? If you're playing games that get her all hyped up and excited that's not likely to help. Behaviour ofte...

The Grand Poobah?
Sorry, I've been trying to think of one for ages but nothing really seems to sum it up in one word All the words that would otherwise fit seem to have been poisoned.

Re: Spen doing his job
 You're kinda making me regret teaching Spencer to shut doors now! Well here's hoping I can get him to ONLY do it on cue lol. Anthropomorphism or not Spen does genuinely seem to enjoy his little jobs. He looks so pleased with himself when carrying the laundry or my keys or whatever I've...

Re: Spen doing his job
Lol, don't worry about it Clare. The people I know who have had problems all have intact males and it's always been males attacking theirs, both intact and neutered ones. We're not talking proper attacks with intent by the way, just a load of noise and slobber for no apparent reason. I don't recall ...

Re: Spen doing his job
Could it be that the other male dogs aren't used to meeting intact males and so they think 'Blimey! That one's really macho, I'd better try to man up a bit and try to look tough!'? So it's just another aspect of dog socialisation, so they're not fazed by a whiff of testosterone. I thought about tha...

Re: Spen doing his job
Oddly enough, I know quite a few people who've had problems with their intact males being attacked by other males around this sort of age. Sensible dog owners with well mannered dogs too. With all of them it's seemed to be a phase that lasted a few months and then things have gone back to normal.

Re: Spen doing his job
A year ago - a hooligan. Today - a budding assistance dog :D All done without force, punishment or surgery. What an inspiration you both are. 8) Thanks Nettle :D The hooligan hasn't quite gone yet but there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel after a few fairly bad months. No jerking around...

Spen doing his job
For some reason Spen has taken it upon himself to carry the laundry to and from the cellar for me. I have to put it in a bag and tie the handles up otherwise I trail along behind him picking up everything as it falls out. Sometimes he struggles to pick the bag up in a way that's comfortable http://i...

Re: emergency recall and high value treats
Bit easier than Sarah's tub and spoon  Lol, I think anything's easier! But as they say, it's the dog who decides what's rewarding and for Spen it seems nothing tops raw. So a tub comes out with us and for anything he does that's really good he gets some. Think I just have weird dogs, Rupert d...

Re: emergency recall and high value treats
I'm sure Clare will giggle knowing what I'm going to say  Spencer is raw fed. I take parts of his meals out with me in a tub and spoon feed him a tiny amount for good recall. I use minces but chopping meat into tiny pieces would work too. I also take out a bag of stuff like chopped sausage, car...
