Re: Sudden Growling Issue?
Funny thing is, Ami is always very excited and happy when a new person wants to meet him. I do ask him to sit until they're within about 3 feet, and then I release him because otherwise he'd run at them anyway...then he leans against them and acts like he's in heaven. However, that's not the issue r...

Re: Sudden Growling Issue?
The major change I would make is that bowl of food sitting there all day, that isn't normal, it suggests there is a level of anxiety over why he doesnt eat, but also its presence there all day could be causing anxiety too! So I would be looking at why, and playing around with changing how much he e...

Re: Super Grooming Week Pictures
I don't have any plans for it...though I might take some to use as stuffing for the giant stuffed Pokemon I'm making for one of the kids. :) I'm not on my computer right now, so I can't post pictures of today's work, but I started brushing the left side of his stomach. Didn't finish, but he was maki...

Sudden Growling Issue?
The people I babysit/dogsit for have two dog: a 2-year-old Malamute, Amadeus, and a 1-year-old Mastiff, Zeus. Both are neutered males. Recently, Amadeus has been growling at people (family members, not strangers on walks) who approach him to pet him. Obviously, they don't want this to continue or es...

Re: is a muzzle the only way?
Saw the question about why she cut down the walks - she had a different issue in another thread, and with the age and breed of the dog, 30 minutes was the proper walk length to help prevent joint issues. ;) Have you used frozen kongs yet? They might keep your dog occupied...I will admit that I don't...

Re: How to stop constant barking
Be a complete and utter annoying brat about this if you need to - bug and nag and constantly, CONSTANTLY complain about Fiona's behavior (and suggest ways to improve it). I'm assuming from your posts that you don't have the option of going and getting a muzzle for Fiona to walk her safely? If you ca...

Re: please help?!?
When you see a dog, from whatever distance, either give her treats immediately (if she seems okay with the distance) or happily run/skip/quickly walk away from the dog, then treat. Just rebuild positive experiences with any sighting, any distance dog. Edit: And if she is uncomfortable with dogs, and...

Super Grooming Week Pictures
So I'm going to be intensely grooming Amadeus the Alaskan Malamute this week (probably next week too...). I'll share some pictures because, well. http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff405/CS_CrazyEmm/IMG_1457.jpg http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff405/CS_CrazyEmm/IMG_1459.jpg http://i1234.photobu...
Re: Fleas! :Þ
Eucalyptus is recommended several places for dogs, but DO NOT use it on cats. They're extremely sensitive to just about everything.

Re: helping foster dog
At my locally-owned pet store, they stock freeze-dried chicken, liver, beef, lamb, etc. You can rehydrate it by sticking it in warm water for a while...I've actually done this when we've run out of wet cat or dog food. ;) Our dogs likes the treats whether they're hydrated or dry, so you could try to...

Re: 4 mo old puppy extremely aggressive!
Fear doesn't always look like fear. Your dog probably knows he's on leash, so when confronting the scary thing, his flight response is removed. The only thing left is fight, which he's preparing to do. The best way to fix THAT part of the aggression/fear is to make dogs, people, bicycles, etc on wal...

Re: Dog is a dangerous Scavenger
Victoria used a collar with a radio sort of thing on it. She taught the dog the "leave it" command until he'd ignore a plate of cupcakes in front of him, then left something dog-safe on the counter, set up a remote-viewing area, and let the dog wander. Then, when the dog went to sniff/eat ...

Re: Dealing with a dog-reactive dog
Had a fun walk with the Mastiff Zeus today...he used to be dog reactive and people reactive, but today...he blew my mind. He sat and waited while a family friend walked over to say hi on our walk, only standing up when the person was about a foot away, which is fine. Later on the same walk, we saw a...

Re: Glucosamine & Chondroitin Supplements?
Though I personally haven't had experience with dogs and these supplements, my grandmother and her friend came over recently, and well. My grandmother isn't much of an animal person. ;) However, her friend is, and said friend has four dogs. One is rather old and was slowing down...she gave him (I th...

Re: realy upset today
Our dogs won't eat plain kibble either. They much prefer either some yummies (whatever non-spiced meat we have) or wet food...sometimes they go off of the wet food after a while, and we just switch to boiling chickens or cooking some plain hamburger meat to warm up and put on their food. Hope you ca...
