Re: Dog/People Aggression
Just moved + second fear period ( this thread has more stuff ) = scary stuff for pup...right now he's probably going to be scared of a lot of stuff. Try not to force him to do anything he isn't sure about, and give him lots of treats/praise/attention when he sees anything new or mildly interesting, ...

Re: Raw Food Diet
I gave Piper (my 4 month old Corgi) a raw chicken wing on Saturday and she ate it just fine and had no problems. This morning around 8:30 I gave her another one and initially she did just fine, but around 1:00 this afternoon she had a very soft poo (they are usually very firm) and then around 3:00 ...

Re: Honey's dream harness
You're doing what's best for your dog. If I were in the same situation, I'd do the same thing. It's not worth scaring her to put a harness on.

Re: Dog that Rolls in smelly things
Onyx once found half a rotten deer carcass and brought it home...I had the "pleasure" of dragging it out to the fenced-in garden so he couldn't roll in/eat it...it was NOT FUN. D:

Re: GSD Not sitting right
The malamute I walk doesn't often lift his leg...he just "parks out" like a Tennessee Walking Horse when he pees. x3

Re: How to tweak things or hopeless?
Honestly, with both dual sets of dogs I know (young GSD + old mutt; two young males, mastiff and a malamute), I wouldn't even dream of walking two of them at once. x3 The area we live in is full of trees and hills, so visibility is *at BEST* a quarter of a mile, which isn't enough when there are dee...

Also, are you on slippery floor or carpet? While Opal can sit on slippery floor, if she shifts her weight she starts moving backwards and has to compensate...same with well, all the dogs I know. On a carpet, it's much easier for them to sit and shake.
I'd definitely second the hip check, either way.

Re: Escape!... Into the House?
Could you teach him a different "trigger" to come into the house? I know some people have a few jingle bells they hang from the door to let the dog ring when they want to go out; if you can hear him and let him in when he rings them, it'd be a way for him to ask to come away from the scary...

Re: Balanced Training....AKA rebranding the same old same old
I havent heard the term 'Balanced Training' but I have notcied how certain aversives seem to be 'rebranded' and how people/companies who like to call themselves positive, or behaviour experts, stock them. For example, UK company The C*mpany of An*mals, who call themselves "the Training and Beh...

Re: Completely different question about headcollars
It could work - in all honesty though if you have time to put the noose over his nose, you have time to do something else too, such as go the other way, treat-bomb the approaching dog, etc etc. I would also worry that with the lead clipped to both, when you do slip the nose band over his muzzle you...

Re: Desensitization
Either she's not hungry, or you're not far enough. If she takes them when there's not a person/dog/whatever around, but doesn't when there is one, she's too stressed out and too close. Try, as soon as she notices the person/whatever, turning and happily calling her in the opposite direction, so you ...

I think the ideal mindset is not so much "I'm the ruler of this pack!" as "I'm the leader here, but I greatly value your opinion anyway."

You may also try things like apple and carrots...the dogs I dogsit for will stalk you forever and do anything for an apple or carrot. My Opal loves crunchy cereals, or pretty much anything really crunchy, haha. :) So try anything...or see if there's a sort of toy he'd like. I feel for you - Onyx isn...

Re: Aussie Shepard Not House Training! HELP!
Take a look through this thread for starters: http://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6125 I've never had a potty-training issue, so I'm afraid I have no other advice, except to read that thread; keep her away from rugs, and have fun happy super treat play parties when she goes outside....
