Re: ideas
Are you concerned the ramp won't hold her weight or she will have trouble learning to use it? On the New Litter of Positive Sled Dogs thread there are several posts on how I train my dogs to "run the ramp". That series starts at https://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=19958&a...

Re: First Sled Run of the Season
The fencing is attached to the gate frame with copious bits of tie wire (aka baling wire). You can pick it up in any hardware store. It has to be replaced about once a year, but it generally does the job well enough. I had to use snowhooks, snub-lines, and pretty much all the luck I ever had in the ...

Re: Behavioral comparison of singleton puppy vs litter
12-27-14, Saturday 0800 - morning kennel chores. Laddy dove into the communal pans with his pen mates, and today was not driven away. He ate his entire ration, ignoring Aufeis and Glacier when they growled his direction - from time to time growling back at them. 1830 - evening kennel chores Laddy at...

Re: First Sled Run of the Season
The snow hooks work reasonably well if the snow is well packed. In loose snow or if the snow pack just isn't deep enough to hold a hook, one can hook around a tree to hold the team (usually) long enough to also tie a snub line around the same or different tree. Although essential for the safety of t...

Re: First Sled Run of the Season
I have to dig out the gates on the pens every time it snows (an issue I hope to resolve next summer). Good fences may make good neighbors, but bad gates will drive you nuts. The issue I've had with the gates in the perimeter fence around my kennel is that snow tends to pile up around them, making th...

First Sled Run of the Season
We finally got enough snow to safely run the trails on a sled, so I took a team out yesterday. They did a nice job overall, though Nels (in wheel) keep crossing the gang line to crowd his running mate, Beau. I captured the run on video, and excerpts give us about 8 minutes or so of entertainment. ht...

Re: Behavioral comparison of singleton puppy vs litter
12/25/14, Thursday: 0800 - kennel chores. Laddy jumped right into the communal pan with the Gang of 3, and today he stood his ground even when the others tried to growl him off. All of the puppies consumed their water this morning, which is unusual. Perhaps Laddy is setting an example for the reside...

Re: New Litter of Positive Alaskan Sled Dog Puppies
I think they were enjoying play time and didn't want to fun to stop yet. That's OK, becoming comfortable with the door closed can come later, along with actually riding in the truck.

Re: Behavioral comparison of singleton puppy vs litter
07:30 - Kennel chores: Feeding - Laddy was right in the first rush to the pans, but was quickly warned away, primarily by Aufeis and Glacier. He seemed unwilling to assert himself. Placed on top of the house with his ration, he ate very little and attempted to get down off the house. He may be accus...

Re: New Litter of Positive Alaskan Sled Dog Puppies
Day 4 of ramp training went famously, AND I was able to catch it on video. Laddy (the new playmate from my buddie's kennel) didn't want to come play. He is still uncertain of the new humans he has to deal with (Trish and I). He hasn't had a lot of exposure to strangers yet. In any event, the "G...

It's already tomorrow in Australia? It's only today here. In any event, Merry Christmas indeed. I hope you enjoy a great one.

Behavioral comparison of singleton puppy vs litter
I have a buddy who operates a kennel of working Siberian Husky sled dogs. One of his b*tches gave birth to a single puppy, about four days after our own litter was born. He asked if Trish and I would be willing to let Alladin (aka Laddy) live with our litter for a few weeks of socialization with pup...

Re: New Litter of Positive Alaskan Sled Dog Puppies
The puppies are already running up and down the ramp without luring, heading for the jackpot in the box. I was able to capture some nice photos today. They are in a public album on FB at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 455&type=1
