Re: My other obsession (photo thread!)...
We have these on the ranch and we LOVE them, they clear out rodents quicker than cats do. They are such mellow, gentle snakes, and harmless to everything except rodents. By that I mean, even when not bred in captivity, but as a wild creature, they are gentle, and can easily be handeled by humans, bu...

Re: Ears
If you think about a puppy, they are all about growth and formation, the tiny ligament and muscles in their ears are also developing and growing. While I do not believe petting the ears gently will cause harm, certainly I do not recommend pulling on the ears, or rough rubbing.

Re: When to neuter?
Ok, here comes a rather lengthy one, sorry. A previous post talked about animals working and now evolving into almost family members. This was my point to bringing up the horse thing, our horses are ridden almost every day, but not for pleasure, we move large herds of cattle, seperate cattle etc. wi...

Re: When to neuter?
Also, because we have different experiences with the horse/cattle thing. I can tell you that due to the thickness of the necks, stallions are not balanced to work cattle. Our horses are working horses, 2 geldings, 2 mares. We geld, because we don't raise horses, none of us want to deal with the b.s....

Re: When to neuter?
I just downed our brangus bull when I went home in August, took out the side of our barn, charged our horses, and anything else that moves, all of us had sustained injuries from working with him. 2,000 pounds of pure mean. I grinned the entire way to the meat processing plant :D I will be happy to p...

Re: When to neuter?
Ok,so I have never had any bad experiences health or behavior wise with my dogs, and there have been many, mostly dachshunds and German shepherds. I have never had reason to fear for my life from any of our steers or geldings, but the bulls and stallions are quite another matter. So I guess my exper...

Re: When to neuter?
Customarily, in the U.S., when our behaviorlists start deeming it an issue, and the studies come down from them, then the veterinarians ususally follow suit. So far as I know, and can tell, we havent seen any definative proof yet, so it is just a theory that some people and a few vets have. There ar...

Re: Worming & de-fleaing
I am here in the U.S. but I can tell you that if you keep your dog flea free, you more than likely won't have the worm issues. Fleas carry worm larvae, and when you dog chews an itchy flea bite he gets the larvae in his intestines. So that being said, I would recommend frontline, but dont know if yo...

Absolutely agree with Mattie, and Jacksdad. I found my passion and used education to enhance it. I know tons of "book smart" people, you need to team it up with the work experience. And Jacksdad, you sound like my dad Who was a very wise man

Re: Urinary/Kidney Issues
You should first do a urine analysis if this has not already been done. (a sample of the urine is placed on a slide and checked for bacteria, crystals etc.) You don't say how old your dog is, or what kind of dog it is. There are some breeds so prone to crystals in their urine that a complete change ...
