Re: wormcount

Just thought I'd look back at this to see when I last wormed Hattie...coming up to 3 years ago  . She has just had another count back and she is STILL on the lowest possible score. I just keep thinking how can this be??...it's probably perfectly normal and I've just bought into the whole para...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

it does go to show how allowing your dog to communicate and being the owner who likes to say yes allows some nice polite behaviours to develop of their own accord. .....or not  I love that Hattie asks....tho we have created a bit of a monster, as we always give in to her hilarious asking..usua...

Re: If your dog were a person...

Loving the replies to this. :D Hattie my fox terrier would probably be a professional chess player or perhaps work for MI6  Mostyn on the other hand, a simple and honest lad, would probably be content with a non too taxing job where he could chat up the ladies and he'd probably end up in a row ...

Re: Male shouting at other males

thanks for your replies guys. Hi. I think there's probably much more communication going on than I can sense, between dogs leading up to and including greeting. Barking and lunging is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to stress and fear behaviour. Try google something like "how adrenali...

Re: Male shouting at other males

thanks Judy I can't remember, how old is he now? He may be still in the process of settling in with you and feeling more relaxed so he's ready to flex his muscles. Or he may be coming to see Hattie as 'his' (possibly influenced by her being on the verge of coming into season) and wanting to keep oth...

Male shouting at other males

Hey guys, so I've had my rescue dog since the end of July. I would say he is a generally well balanced dog when it comes to other dogs however the number of incidences where he has ended up in a row with another dog seems to be increasing at the mo and it would be good to have people's thoughts... I...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

Interesting read Clare thanks! Particularly as Hattie is due in season now. However despite a few changes in her behaviour, increased marking, sniffing everything (a 5 min walk to get to the beach takes about 20 mins at the mo!), nothing else appears to be happening! Isn't there a saying about a wat...

Re: Separation distress and VERY fussy eater

Hey Sanna, Do they do much with her in terms of tiring out her brain? particularly if she's a busy girl. Nosework,or a sandpit so she can dig her ball out, not feeding out of a bowl...all of that kind of stuff? I remember volunteering to test the Relaxation Protocol, have to admit I only made it to ...

Re: why do dogs pace?

Hmm thanks Nettle :? He does do it sometimes in a walk, but you're right, its only if we are going slow for some reason. I'm normally striding out though, which seems to suit his gait, unless he's being super keen, then he's ahead of me!! I will pay close attention to him off lead, as it's something...

why do dogs pace?

Just wondered if anyone knew the answer to this? Is it a conformation thing? Is it habit? I've only heard of one other dog doing this, a different mix to Mostyn, but long backed and long legged like him...so maybe its more common than i realise ? He definitely does it more on the lead, and seems to ...

Re: Aggressive resource guarding.... Don't want to re-home but has become a big problem.

The 'trading for treats' idea is a good one, however when he's in a real guarding mood he simply won't move no matter what I put in front of him. Even going so far as to turn his head away if I take it over to him. Maybe I need to stick with this though. Hey there I just wanted to clarify a point s...

Re: Aggressive resource guarding.... Don't want to re-home but has become a big problem.

Hi there I am not an expert, but also have been working through issues with a very resource guardy dog of my own which we too have only had for 5 months ... just to add to what Fundog has already said... first things first...5 months is VERY early days in terms of him settling in with you and feelin...
