Re: Interesting Discussion re: choke chains
Ah no you misunderstood runlikethewind....the class I help out at wouldnt let ANYONE in with a choke chain. This puppy walked past the hall with his owners while we were outside waiting for the puppies for our class to arrive.

Re: Springer driving me up the wall!
Doggiedad....I do not think crating the dog is the answer on its own...his needs wont be being met, and the reasons for his behaviour wont be being addressed and he will just be shut away in a confined area.

Re: Springer driving me up the wall!
Another way to teach loose lead walking which is the way I teach it is to have the dog at your side, lead across your body in the oppositr hand to the dog (and clicker if you use the clicker) and treats in the hand nearest the dog. Take one step....as you take that step click (if you use the clicker...

Re: Vegan dog food?
Totally agree. At my recent APDT (UK) Training weekend a fellow student had bought a friends dog with her. The friend is vegan and so therefore her dog is also vegan! We were all shocked as to me, a dog is a carnivore so why should we have the right to push our beliefs and views on them. Sure...if y...

Re: Interesting Discussion re: choke chains
Or even slip leads...which can be used in the same way as a choke chain of course, but which also usually have a toggle on so that it cant be used in this way. Martingale collars are better but just need to be fitted correctly otherwise they work in the same way as choke chains. We had a Rottie pupp...

Re: Interesting Discussion re: choke chains
In my view it seems people who use a choke chain dont bother teaching the dog to walk nicely on a loose lead. Some people seem to think as well that by the dog being choked when it pulls it will 'teach itself' to not pull! I hate choke chains.....I really wish they werent sold now...the fact they ar...

Re: Behavioural therapists-any experience/opinions?
Oh yes indeed! And Nettle on here is a very good behaviourist too! I have had many issues with my dog with his fear aggression...but he is sooo very much better now. We have been seeing a veterinary behaviourist since May last year. If you find some of my old posts from early last year and the year ...

Can I just check something please? You say you got her a week and a half ago, at 6 weeks...so she isnt 8 weeks old yet is that correct? If so she shouldnt be going outside in public at the moment as shye hasnt had all her vaccinations? First of all her behaviour is total normal puppy behaviour. And ...

Re: Managing chase/prey drive
Its tough isnt it! Dylan has quite a high chase drive....I manage it by basicaly preventing it happening, in the hope that the less it happens the less of a habit it will be. For example, on my walk yesterday, part of it is in dense woodlands where he used to run off after squrrel and deer a lot. So...

Re: Help a dog deal with stress?
Have you tried a Thundershirt? There is no scientific reasoning behind them as to why they should work...but people swear by them. Mine does seem to help Dylan when he gets extr stressed at fireworks or thunder or something.

Re: Grossed out!!
I find it hard to believe they came from the Stagbar to be honest....I sell them and sell a lot at that, and nobody has ever come back and complained of maggots...plus at the moment I have a box full of them and no maggots in sight!
Very odd!
