Re: Stripping Equipment

I've never found slicker brushes to be tolerated well by the dog OR easy on the groomers wrists to be honest with you. Also they are either skimming along the top of the coat and not getting right down to the skin or they DO get down to the skin and then make the dog sore! There is one kind I like t...

Re: i get the same question over and over again? help

They definitely don't need to read articles by that particular...... person. Some incidences of 'rage' were serious and very rare neurological issues that would have required an MRI scan and probably a functional MRI scan which up until VERY recently we didn't have the abilyt to do on dogs and you s...

Re: RIP My Beloved Annie 6/6/03--3/16/17

I'm sorry to read this and really sorry it didn't go the way you wanted. I think its something a lot of us put off, trying to make sure arrangements are as we want them ahead of time and of course sometimes it's just not possible!

Thinking of you all xx

Re: Stripping Equipment

It depends on the breed really.. SO for my wirey rough coated Grand Basset - she has her coat stripped along the top of her body and down the sides and then the legs are left longer, strip under/behind the ears but leave her face/beard long, tidy up the throat and chest.... so all the areas where im...

Re: Stripping Equipment

Sorry to be a bit useless - I really don't have prefered brands - what I do is go along to a big store or a big dog show with lots of groomers trade stands and get hands on, handle the equipment. I really only use a stripping knife and my fingers, so I just pick whats comfy for me and whats the righ...

Re: Reactive Collie

I would pick the quietest location you have where he can still hear or hear and see stuff going by.. for most people thats a back yard or garden, or maybe a balcony or a room wtih a view outdoors (but not the front room thats usually too much). Sit and chill and any noise you hear, any thing he sees...

Re: Recall Question

Love at first sight? What long line do you use - I have switched to Biothane which is pretty light and being non-absorbent andwipe clean, does not get heavy and wet and mucky! Maybe some more impulse control work to remind him that waiting and doing what you want means he can do what he wants - but ...

Yup, we have a crate downstairs at the minute with a duvet heaped on top.. the dogs are FAR more likely to be on top of it than in it!

Re: Hello I'm new here

It's a little quieter here now since Facebook REALLY took off, but facebook is a very poor medium for sharing written advice! So we are still ticking along here (and fighting the spam which is why currently all new accounts have to wait for me to activate them!).

Welcome to you both :D

Re: Reactive Collie

Hi Caesg (btw you shouldn't need to break your post up like that, if you are going to write a long one, write it in a word doc and copy and paste that way if hte forum eats it you still have it). Whilst I agree with Judy that normally a collie needs more exercise than that, a stressy reactive collie...

Re: Elderly cat

I sort of think in your shoes, I would.. because Jasper is a sensitive flower and does really like the cat, is there a risk hes going to look for him? I think I'd pop a muzzle on and let him sniff the body but be prepared with some heavy duty distraction material should Jasper assume this is a new c...

Re: Adult Dog Eliminating in Crate

Hi there, welcome to the forums. My initial feeling was that its too long in the crate and up until the cold spell that taboo of not going in her crate was causing her to hold on beyond her comfort point, and then once she really couldnt and had an accident in there, that if you will, opened the flo...

Re: How to tell other people?

Its really really hard, as Judy says, not many people are going to welcome advice from a stranger. Most people just don't welcome advice they did not ask for, and a surprising number actually don't like or welcome advice they DID ask for! If you CAN get talking to them, start out with something not ...

Re: Cat Chasing - Help!!

Cats - hes a border collie, he chases because things move and cats MOVE. He doesn't chase when the cat stops moving.... becuse its stopped moving! We have bred collies to SERIOUSLY want things to move so they can be chased, we have selected for this for thousands of years, and what we now have is a ...
