Re: Tips and advices for a long journey by plane
Hi! I don't have any experience with this, but I wanted to bump your thread so that it didn't get too far down the page. Maybe a few more details about Otto/your situation would help? -- I believe you said in a previous post that he's a German Shepherd mix? -- Is he normally laid back? Keyed up? Ner...

Re: Very full anal glands in a RMB fed dog
Thanks rnor - Charley likes pumpkin and we used it when he was on crate rest to keep him regular, so I might experiment with that again. I looked up body condition score charts, and on the 1-5 scale he's a 3 (moderate); on the 1-9 scale he fluctuates between 4 - 5 (ideal). (Am so thankful that every...

Re: Why is my dog suddenly a bully?
I tried an "anti-pull" harness for a while with my small (15lb) dog. I can't remember the brand for sure (Sensation?), but it had a straight strap that went horizontally around the chest area. It was not very useful to us. Working on Loose Leash Walking was much more helpful. I know there ...

Re: Very full anal glands in a RMB fed dog
I have heard a suggestion that although firm poos are needed to empty the glands naturally, raw-fed poos sometimes might not be bulky enough to do the job. I've heard that too, Judy. I was on some site (can't remember the name, some "natural" vet's, I think) that recommended adding in who...

Re: Very full anal glands in a RMB fed dog
I've read that too, minkee, and it will be one of my questions for our vet. Watching some youtube videos on expressing, the amount of fluid coming out is nothing compared to how much came out of Charley's glands at the vet! So apparently he needs more help than just the raw diet (maybe becau...

Re: Very full anal glands in a RMB fed dog
Thanks gwd! Charley will be due for a checkup next month, so I'll plan on having the vet show me how to check/express if needed. I'll try to schedule the appt for a time when OH is available... as OH has already told me he wouldn't mind doing this if we need to do it periodically  ...

Re: Why is my dog suddenly a bully?
Hi there! This article is a great overview of puppy development: http://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1981 It sounds like your lab may be in a "fear period" - and maybe he's trying to scare away the scary other dogs. Don't let what other people say make you feel like there ...

Very full anal glands in a RMB fed dog
Hi everyone! Charley's my 15ish lb dachshund (5yrs). On Tuesday night he was shivering violently and was hesitant to move - I was so scared he was having another disc disease episode. So we gave him the pain meds we have on hand for him and got him into the vet yesterday morning. Charley had no neur...
