Re: Chihuahua refuses potty training.

Some of them get very upset when a dog goes in front of their house even though it is not on their property and even though I very obviously have a poop bag in hand and always clean up. It's a frequent topic on our neighborhood's list serve. Some people do not clean up after their dogs (I bet they ...

Re: Peemail from girls in season

Is there any reason that it was so much more intense today than normal? my guess, as to why the the intensity was more than normal, is that the 'lady' in question was not just 'in season', but 'IN SEASON'! in my experience, my males have always started doing a morning 'check sniff' a couple of days...

Re: Dog first aid: emergency dog care and first aid

this really isn't about first aid, but more of an 'emergency' tip. police and other first responders are trained to check your cell phone contacts for "ICE" (in case of emergency) contact info should you be injured in an auto accident. so, with that in mind, i've entered an ice contact for...

Re: Completed obedience class, but now won't obey commands

I realize it does seem like willful disobedience, but it's not....not really. Not in the human sense. exactly. there are hundreds, thousands even 'versions' of the same command. a dog may sit perfectly in the kitchen but not by the door when the pizza delivery guys shows up. they may learn the pizz...

Re: Dog continues to bite me

yip as if you've been hurt and turn away In my experience, and that of many others, the 'yipping' method doesn't work for a lot of dogs, but simply gets them more excited. Try it, by all means, if you haven't already, but I'd abandon it pretty quickly if it doesn't seem to be working. i'm always in...

Re: Help - agressive towards other dogs

timing is key to the solution. .........it's easy to look back and see what could have been done differently, but that situation you had when she was politely sniffing (and being sniffed) by the other dogs was a missed opportunity. .......when the other dogs started to walk away, this would have bee...

Re: Dog continues to bite me

you have a lovely opportunity to teach your boy bit inhibition. .......most people miss out on the opportunity when their puppies are young and they instead try and eliminate ANY mouthing by young puppies. play with your boy and when he mouths you with anything but a very soft mouth, yip as if you'v...

Re: shaving or just trimming

i've had english setters and english springers. ........i compete in AKC conformation shows so the idea of shaving a ess brings a tear to my eye. we show folk baby and nurture each hair! that said, a quick glance at the vacuum canister reminds me that most pet owners would enjoy a little less ...
