Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Yesterday was Laufey's second agility competition and he won a class! We were entered in two agility classes and a jumping class. The one he won, the jumping class was combined grades 1 and 2 and we were 10 seconds faster than the only other pair who ran clear. I am so very proud of him!! ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
If we're on the topic, I don't ever plan to "move out". Move us all will definitely have to happen at some point but financially it works out better to stay at home so that's the plan. I saw a woman today when I was out with Laufey at lunch who was reading whilst walking her dog. Oh and it...

Re: More then one dog?
Going from one dog to two wasn't really a big deal for us - mum and I very much have a dog each and in some ways it's more like housemates than family dogs. But I'd love to add a standard poodle in about 4 years which could be a huge problem as MiMi is terrified of strange dogs at the minute so as m...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I'm not going to really rant here, I've already done that on fb and half hoping somebody knows the person in question but anyway. Took both dogs to the park the afternoon, it started off lovely with the only other person on the park being a man with his two spaniels who takes excellent care with the...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Oh well done Laufey! :D I love watching dog agility when the dog decides he knows a much better route  Thanks Judy! He was excellent and I'm just so glad he managed to focus at any point so I have high hopes for the future. Why is it that lurchers insist on having the most comfortable beds av...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
MiMi sounds like Violet Elizabeth Bott in the William books  "I'll thcweam and thcweam until I'm thick!"[\quote] She really does! It's absolutely awful and to look at you'd think there was something really wrong as all this white foam with dark spots just comes spewing out of her. Gr...

Re: Ear question
No chance of convincing them. they seem to think it would be a pain with adding lots of supplements and cooking food and giving them rice and veggies and stuff. they also think its more expensive. (though while im on the DCO food ill readily argue that) If it helps, rice and cooking definitely not ...

Re: Ear question
No ear advice but as you've got onto raw I just thought I'd offer some more reassurance that it's not as hard as it seems in the beginning. I don't add anything and veg is ad hoc. If you were really worried then there's some premade ones now but you just have to check what model they're following fo...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I'm a big fan of BAT but I think it's tricky unless you have access to a space you can control and suitable stooge dogs.. So for me, in 'real life', LAT is easier for most owners and dogs ;) This is what I've been finding, especially as she can't cope with seeing a dog on the other side of the road...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Bless him Sanna! I have, our behaviourist advised BAT for her dog reactivity but our main issue has been the creating distance portion as her reactivity range increases hugely once she's seen it. For instance when our neighbour (living opposite) came out with her dog, MiMi fixated and wanted to bark...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I feel like we've hit a bit of a snag with MiMi and I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and work with her. I know that sounds a bit of a silly thing to say and like it's an obvious solution. My "issue" with doing that has been that she's my mum's dog and I didn't particularly...

Re: New pup - and it's cold outside!
Probably the easiest thing early on is wrap up and carry. -6F is around -20C so at a guess you're somewhere like Canada? I know of a lady with German shepherd (adults) who are quite happy to go out in her Canadian winter and don't wear shoes but for a puppy, if you can get them to comfortably wear b...

Re: 13 week old pup
Love the growl!!!! Seriously, if she growls she's just communicating with you that's she's uncomfortable and if you ignore her she will end up having to escalate - by biting. Avoid doing things that make her uncomfortable. Why do you feel the need to pick her up, you're unlikely to be doing it when ...

Re: a bit of help
I have no advice that could in any way hope to surpass Nettle's wisdom but I just wanted to say owner really needs to change his ideas on this one. "Friendly" or not, this would absolutely terrify one of my dogs and set her back to the beginning again. Due to other people taking this attit...
