Re: Pet corrector spray
Are all interrupting devices bad though? My sister has a whistle that is almost identical to the one i use for Bax's recall. she blows it whenever her dog barks and he comes running and stops barking. (she didn't train him, he just came running the first time she whistled and he's done it ever since...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
so the day i post asking for dog treat recipes is the day i come home to find my sister cooking dog treats! It was my nephewpup Ki's 5th birthday. Since i didnt have a recipe i whipped up a random batch of cobbled together stuff, flour, baking powder, pureed apple and sliced carrots with a molasses,...

Re: RECIPES: For Kongs, Meals, Treats, Snacks, and Food Toppings
Hey not to revive a dead thread bit IS pinned. So last year for Christmas I made a huge batch of homemade dog treats for all the dogs in our family. They had oats, applesauce, an shredded carrot. My problem is that I'm unsure I can find the recipe again this year and I kind of want to try something ...

I'm not a trainer or a professional of any type so all I can offer is my condolences that this happened =( That must have been terrifying, I can't even imagine. I hope you find healing and soon get back on your feet again doing what you love!

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
We had agility today and it was "jackpot" and "full house" which means i got to chose what i wanted to do on the course. Naturally i chose to do all jumps since Bax cant do tunnels or contacts (hes to scared to) and Bax got to have a full class instead of sitting on the sidelines...

"handsy" dog breeds
So I'm having a bit of a discussion with someone and i want it settled. Are some breeds more "handsy" then others or is it an individuals personality trait? What I mean by "handsy" is a dog that's more inclined to use their paws. Bax for example uses his paws for everything. he p...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Being Bax's mum is always a learning experience. Today while my dad was on the phone i took Bax and his squeaky toy into another room and closed the door. Initially i threw the toy in and Bax followed it but he looked at me with such a heart broken expression as i left that i went in to. As i played...

Re: Dog vs dog food agression
Thanks a ton guys! i always feel bad posting cause I've posted like six topics and i don't want people to feel like I'm taking over the board :( yeah ever since Bax came home I've played the trading game with him. (originally necessitated by him running away cackling with used feminine products(don'...

Re: Dog vs dog food agression
Any advice on how to build that trust that treats will come if he just waits? like i said i've gotten him to the point where if its in the context of a sit down Training Session he'll sit and wait while i treat Ki and then i quickly shove one in his mouth but i can tell it's just killing him waiting...

Re: Dog vs dog food agression
*phew* that actually sounds better then i thought. i can manage that. Meal times wont be a problem, they are fed in separate rooms and bax cleans his bowl first go. Any tips for slowing down his *Lunge* MINE! reflex? is it to optimistic to expect him to look to me for his treat before lunging? there...

Dog vs dog food agression
Once again sorry for another post =( My first hit on a "dog food aggression" search was for ceasar millan so i hightailed it as fast as i could over here. Bax is totally okay with HUMANS touching his food. If he has a chew and it's time i took it from him he doesn't protest. He's always wa...

Re: Car anxiety vs car sickness
very fair point! thanks for the advice JudyN. i was totally going to try it with the car door open today but i think I'll hold off on that now and just keep going round and round. EDIT: this is going better then i'd hoped. took him out to the car. as soon as he got close he put on the brakes. (went ...

Re: Car anxiety vs car sickness
Good news on the dog training! worked with bax on just proximity to the car today. He started out by putting on the brakes and shivering with his ears down. I gave him some treats and got him to chase the treats by tossing them a little closer to the car. got him all the way up to the car door and s...
