She's obviously made up her mind, hasn't she? Good luck, and do let us know if you have success.

Re: How to train a dog to potty indoors AND outdoors

Something else you could try (I'm not an expert, just throwing ideas at you in case something works) is teach her to toilet on command while outside the house - use a cue word when she toilets, praise and treat, and eventually she should link the word to the action. Then, after plenty of chicken bro...

Re: How to train a dog to potty indoors AND outdoors

if she needs to go and doesn't have a chance to go outside she just hides in her Kennel Do you mean she'll toilet in her kennel and if she does, does she seem anxious about going there? Is that inside your apartment, or on the balcony, and does she also sleep in the kennel? I don't suppose there's ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

IDoes he bark if OH is on his own? I'll have to ask him - ask OH that is, not ask J  That's worth thinking about, but I'd have said he was the sort of dog who is likely to be more reactive the less confident he is in a situation. Maybe he worries that there are two of us for him to protect ins...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

How come Jasper is more reactive to the front door when OH is at home? Delivery people often leave parcels in our porch, and he's usually fine with that. Also fine if they ring the doorbell, though he can react if they knock instead, particularly if they come into the porch and knock on the inner do...

Re: How to train a dog to potty indoors AND outdoors

Hi, and welcome to the forum. What is the longest she is actually left for? If she wants to go while you're there, does she actively ask to be taken outside? Remember that most people manage without pee pads so it is workable to build in enough outdoor toilet breaks - but I can appreciate that it is...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Are they teaching alternate behaviors? Are they upping the mental work...learn silly tricks, hunt for bit of hidden food etc.? I don't think so. I will suggest she gets that brain ticking. She's got three other dogs, all in a tiny house, though, and her life is a bit... chaotic... Still, it doesn't...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Luckily my friend has an excellent vet who thinks it's obsessive/compulsive behaviour, and he has improved a lot with medication (Prozac I think). It doesn't seem to be triggered by stress, but seems to happen without warning (occasionally in the middle of the night when he's sleeping next to her :s...

That's the funny thing about puppies - they can keep you young and give you grey hairs at the same time

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Oopsy.... My friend came round with her rescue terrier, E, this afternoon. E came from Bulgaria, having spent the first few years of his life chained up, and has moments where he will frantically spin, barking and growling trying to catch his tail, which she thinks may be a result of being attacked ...

Ari_RR, are you noticing much difference personalitywise between Miles and Ari at a similar age? And are you doing anything different with him based on what you learnt with Ari?

Re: Fear aggression - some questions

I'm so pleased he's happy now - that's what matters :D I know someone on another forum who recently adopted a second, adult, dog. Her dog is quite shy and sensitive, but well raised, trained, exercised, etc. She's been amazed to see that not only do the two dogs get on, but her original dog is so mu...
