Re: Should I bother about training any more?
when I encouraged you to not stop the training, I didn't mean going to a class full of dogs. sorry if I implied that. clearly your dog needs to take a break from that and if your stressed about it, it will only make her stress worse. I completed a class in which other dogs were present and because h...

Re: Abandonment Issues/Separation anxiety
before i knew better, I did everything Horace's mom says not to. trust me, not doing as she says will make it worse. I took in a jack russel / chiwawa mix. he wasn't abused, but he did spend a lot of time by him self, which is why his original family was trying to re home him. he bonds fast and stro...

Re: Please Help Me To Help Her!
It is good that you are concerned about getting the right trainer. Best advice I can give, and I sure others will chime in is to start here http://www.apdt.com/petowners/default.aspx But still, do your homework. Try to observe the trainer in action if you can. ask questions, see if they give answers...

Re: Way forward?
Actually it does, my dog reacts to other dogs while on leash too. for him I am still unsure if it's fear or frustration he can't just run over to the other dog and stay hi. not that it really matters as both end up with almost identical behavior that needs to be changed. Anyway, if your dog stayed s...

Helen, quick question. was your dog in a sit while you were able to focus on the oncoming dog?

just barley saw it. if you hadn't mentioned it I would have missed it. I also noticed his ears when down even more when the man with the leash would get closer.

Re: Positively Expert Blog post, 1/10, Karen Pryor
only the morning walk before work has "pressure" to get there/get back. but even that walk is at least 30 minutes most of the time. And I have a couple different options of destination/paths to mix it up just a little. The after work walk ...time, destination etc are not a problem. we can ...

Re: Positively Expert Blog post, 1/10, Karen Pryor
wow, late to the this topic, but an issue I also have become very self aware of since reading Karen's blog post. I have been struggling to get a good loose leash walk with my dog, and while over the last week and a half I have had a major break through, even my Daughter mentioned to day when she wal...

Re: Video - dog misinterpreted?
I missed the tongue flicks the first time I watched it. that was the piece the put the rest into context wasn't it. after nettle mentioned it, I watched a second time and saw them. Boy you have to be fast...almost have to see the signals without having to think to look for them don't you.

Re: Should I bother about training any more?
my dog is much worse then what you describe when he sees another dog while on leash. Because initially I didn't understand the problem for what it was, I missed an opportunity to nip it in the bud so to speak. now I am going to have to work harder then I might have 3 months ago. So "ignoring/ac...

this is huge, well done. as someone struggling with similar issues I know what it's like when your dog flips out on leash. Enjoy the moment.

Re: Victoria vs Ceaser
Using the prong collar brought me to tears, forcing me to see the damage it was doing to our relationship, and I threw the thing away. I think a lot of us have made similar mistakes based on some "expert" advice. The important thing is that we have learned and are dropping the unnecessary...

Re: I think I need a hug if there's any going...
I have had those why can't he be like other dogs that don't freak out on leash, and or the what have I gotten my self into moments quite a bit lately. And my dog doesn't have half the "issues" it sounds like your your working through. From others responses to this thread, it sounds like yo...
