Re: Funny... clicker training a Deerhound..
I've gotten to the point where I can't even have clicky pens - if Rosie is anywhere nearby she'll hear the click, bolt over and start running through all her tricks. You can just see the little wheels turning in her head as she tries to figure out what I want. I use her as an example when folk...

Re: New neighbours
I just let her out a few minutes ago when I saw the neighbours leave. The Aussie barked from the house, but thankfully Rosie didn't seem too concerned about it. She ran in the front a bit, but avoided the chain link fence connected to the Aussie's yard. I did a few free shaping clicker activities wi...

New neighbours
I recently moved down to New Hampshire after my partner and I split, and Rosie is with me. I'm currently doing a house share - I have the upstairs bedroom/bathroom/study and share the dining room and kitchen, but the best thing for Rosie is she now has a fenced in backyard. She ran around all day ye...

Re: Anxiety and Ensuing Destruction
As a PetSmart trainer myself, I agree the classes can be hit or miss. What you could do is ask to speak to the trainer and ask them what additional research they do themselves to keep up to date. If they're like me, that question will get me talking up a storm, as I'm quite happy to share where I ge...

Re: Energy level of pitbull or a pittie mix
I think for a terrier, they're couch potatoes, but only in comparison to other terriers. My Rosie loves to cuddle and nap, but she does get her zoomies at least once a day. She whines after about a half hour walk as well, but I attribute this more to her anxiety than anything else.

Re: Bathing and Frontline
Frontline doesn't actually repel the ticks, it just kills them once they're on her. I believe K9 Advantix both repels and kills ticks, but you shouldn't use it if you have cats, as it's highly toxic to them.

Re: puppy treats
I'm not sure if it's a pit bull thing, but my Rosie and the foster pup we had before Rosie both had *very* sensitive stomachs. The only treats I can feed Rosie are the Natural Balance food rolls (and the little bite-sized treats of the same brand) or freeze-dried liver/chicken. Anything else and she...

Re: 5 month old Husky still peeing and pooing in the house!!
I would not pick up his water at 6pm. If you are worried about him having an accident, you can put down ice cubes in his bowl so that he is not gulping down water, but still has access to it. Withholding water is against the law in the UK and I believe should be in the US. How often are you taking h...

Re: Every walk is a battle...
What do you use as a treat when trying to distract him? My APBT is very reactive toward other dogs and a regular dog treat just wouldn't work in getting her attention. We've since used hot dogs warmed in the microwave and even rotisserie chicken (for areas that are new to her) and that will usually ...

Re: Training Treats
Natural Balance food rolls are good, and I've had dogs using frozen meatballs, string cheese, and even rotisserie chicken in my puppy classes. I was rather jealous of the Lhasa with the chicken - the rotisserie smelled so good!
