Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Never leaving the dogs again :( After well over a year, probably nearer 2 years, pretty much trouble free, Pops and Sash had a major spat over a stray piece of kibble in the bedroom last night apparently (probably fallen out of a pocket at some point), and Sash has a torn ear :( Management always fa...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Day 1 of four day IMDT course today and it was fantastic. Very scary, having to stand up and talk/teach in front of everyone, its less about dogs and more about how to teach PEOPLE, so learnt lots about communicating clearly, etc etc which is the part I am rubbish at!

Re: What has your smart dog figured out?
You know how we often tell people to fit a few minutes of training in during the day : for example whilst the kettle boils etc etc.... Poppy and Bendog were upstairs in bed with OH, I put kettle on to make a drink to take to bed, and at the sound of the kettle boiling both have come hurtling down th...

Re: Vent!
When the dogs have been walked twice, played with, and fed, and are still whinging at you :( Trying to ignore it because they need to learn that I cannot entertain them every second of the day when they get bored, but at same time, feeling bad for not giving them what they want/need, they had a big ...

Also, I don't think I've mentioned but MiMi is driving me crazy. She's teething so wanting to chew everything (particularly wood) but whenever we have toys out they do nothing but argue over them. Laufey is getting much better at leaving something she's got and getting something else (although does...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Doing a lot of baby/child care reading at the moment and came across this: http://bigthink.com/videos/is-your-child-a-brat-use-rewards-not-punishment My dogs have been frustrating this week. Heavy hail showers have meant we've not got out for walks as much as I'd like. We've been doing lots of train...

Re: Birthday Boy
He's had bit of a boring day today since I've been working, although he did get a nice stroll in the woods, peanut butter and cheese kong for breakfast and a lambs heart for dinner, plus plenty of snuggles of course. But we did go to the sand hills for a good walk at the weekend http://i1094.photobu...

Lovely little family!
I might be wrong but I think it looks like a royal python Diane
I've wanted one for years but I know my OH is scared of snakes and won't ever let me have one. I don't think our dogs would get one with a snake either! I do have a little gecko though.

Re: My New GSD Puppy
Working lines are a totally different kettle of fish to show or "pet" lines! You'll have your hands full - my friend has a working line pup who has just turned a year old and although she loves her, she really struggles to manage her. And she has developed some dog aggression and guarding ...

. wouldn't want to have dogs who didn't care if you were there or not though, Amy  True, some of the dogs I walk at first barely seem to realise that their is a human attached to the end of the lead  Of course I'm sure that they are very affectionate and loving at home but I like that ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Lucky you have friends you trust to leave sweetie with, I hate leaving my dogs! I've been dog sitting all week for a spaniel and although I've been seeing my dogs every day for walks/cuddles, and OH has been off work all week, it has been taking it's toll on me and my dogs :( Even Sash has been wagg...

Re: Need help!
Well, so far really pleased with how training is going. Poppy now runs to her bed as soon as I walk into the room with a plate of food in my hand, without a verbal cue, though she did make me laugh yesterday as I was a bit slow between rewarding her so she kept swapping beds to see if that worked! (...

Re: Suzanne Clothier on leadership
I liked the book because it made me think. Not because I agreed with all of it. I think there's a line somewhere between the people like Suzanne who seem to think all training is based on the dog doing what you want because you are a leader, and the science-y side of quadrants and training and rewar...

Not sure which supermarket you use but our Morrisons sells it, albeit usually in smallish portions so might not be the cheapest option if you have to buy a few packs. We also get "lamb stock bones" from Morrisons fairly often at just over £1 per kg and they are quite bony but usually have ...
